Seagate launches new lineup of external storage drives

With individuals creating and sharing more digital content today than ever before, storage leaders Seagate have announced the Middle East release of a string of world firsts set to define the next era of personal storage; marked by ultra-fast uploads, slimmer personal drives, and greater connectivity between personal storage and other mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

“We are all creating content, whether that is photos from a night out, video of a baby’s first steps, or a proposal for your next business project,” says Ayman Al-Ajouz, Sales Manager MENA at Seagate.  “Today digital storage is important for everyone who uses a personal computer or a mobile device. All of these files hold a special place of importance, and Seagate is in the business of providing products that can store those valuable files faster, easier, and across platforms.”

Amongst the latest releases is the world’s first portable 4TB storage device—the Backup Plus FAST—providing twice the capacity and speed of most existing portable drives. Featuring a super-speed USB 3.0 interface and delivering transfer speeds up to 220MB per second, it is the perfect companion for creative developers, photographers and music & movie junkies looking to quickly move large files.

Seagate Backup Plus FastSeagate has also released its latest Backup Plus Slim as the world’s thinnest 2TB portable storage device for consumers on the go. With a slick compact design and super-speed USB 3.0 interface, the Backup Plus Slim drive makes it easier to aggregate and back up valued photos, videos and other files despite being spread across numerous devices and social networks.

Both offerings include a new easy-to-use Seagate software interface that will in future be used across the Seagate Backup Plus lineup. The ‘Seagate Dashboard’ software provides a simple one-click backup solution. By simply installing the free Seagate Mobile Backup app on an iOS or Android mobile device, one can easily back up all of the pictures and videos from that device to the drive or a cloud service. The Dashboard software will also back up Facebook and Flickr albums to ensure that video and photos shared through these networks are saved and easy to find. Even the photos you have been tagged in can be backed up from one’s social networks to the drive.

“Mobile devices account for the largest amount of captured video and photos today,” said Chris Chute, research director for IDC’s Worldwide Digital Imaging Practice. “Seven out of every ten pictures captured in 2013 were taken with a smartphone. As a greater portion of our memories are captured by the handheld devices, it becomes increasingly more important that these files be backed up either to a cloud service or locally.”

“Speed and capacity are of the utmost importance in my work which calls for the latest in digital photography and video technologies. When dealing with the large files these devices produce, having high-capacity reliable and fast storage can make the difference between a project succeeding or failing” says Jim Sugar, veteran National Geographic photographer.

The Seagate Backup Plus FAST 4TB portable drive is currently available for approximately AED 1299 from leading retail outlets across UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

The Seagate Backup Plus Slim portable drive is available in several capacities at the following retail prices: 500GB – AED 259, 1TB – AED 339, 2TB – AED 599. The devices are currently available from leading retail outlets across MEA.
