Review: Moto X Force

A very disappointing moment in any smartphone owner’s life is when the screen of the phone breaks into pieces after a fall. Not only does it cost a considerable amount of money to get things fixed, but also, the smartphone comes into the ‘repaired’ category. Moto X force, the fourth phone in the X series, offers a solution to this problem.

Motorola claims that the phone is literally shatterproof. This unbreakable phone also comes with a four year display warranty that covers all types of accidental damages. The basic aesthetics of the Moto X force are similar to the previous phones in the X series.

Just like the Moto Turbo, the Moto X force also comes with a nylon rear panel. The nylon back is pretty much scratchless and has a nice vibe about it. The camera and flash are located near the top, close to the Motorola logo. The phone is quite handy, but not for a single hand, due to its large size and heavy metallic frame.

The USB cum charging port lies at the bottom, with the top containing the micro-SD tray and the nano SIM slot, along with the 3.5mm jack. At the front side, along with the 5.4-inch, 1440×2560-pixel Amoled ‘Shattershield’ display, there are the front camera and flash, two speaker grilles lying at the top and bottom, and the usual sensors. The overall design and feel of the phone are as expected out of a flagship device.

The Moto X force runs on a Qualcomm snapdragron 810 SoC, along with an adreno 430 GPU. The phone also features 3 GB of RAM, and comes with 32 GB and 64GB of internal storage. The latter costs some extra bucks though. In terms of connectivity, the single SIM phone is 4G compatible, supports Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC. The Moto X force boasts a 3760 mAh non-removable battery, along with a 25W charger.

Thanks to Qualcomm’s fast charge technology, the phone can completely charge itself in less than an hour. The phone comes with android 5.1.1 but can be upgraded to version 6.0. The phone also comes with Motorola’s signature features like Assist, and customized voice commands to access the voice assistant. This phone is an absolute powerhouse, and can handle absolutely anything from heavy gaming to multitasking.

The phone comes with a 21 megapixel primary shooter that has a dual tone LED flash and variable focus. The camera quality is quite nice and it can shoot beautiful 4K videos at 30 fps. The rear shooter can also capture 720p slow-motion videos. The front camera is a 5 megapixel one, that comes with a single tone LED flash.

Unlike the rear one, the front shooter lacks variable focus. The front camera can also record full HD videos at 30 fps. The camera app itself is not very impressive, as it feels a little over-simplified. But, overall, the camera quality is spectacular.

Though the phone is an absolute stunner in every aspect, the price it is offered at, is way too much. Also, the shatterproof display is not enough to compensate for the lack of fingerprint sensor and dual-SIM connectivity. Were it a little cheaper, the Moto X force would have perfect.

Price: AED 2499 approx.
