Samsung confirms the development of rollable and slidable displays

With major companies now focusing on innovative display technologies, Samsung has officially confirmed that they are working on new rollable and slidable display form-factors that could be ready for this year.

The information was confirmed on a financial report by none other than Choi Kwon-young, the senior vice-president of Samsung Display. Samsung’s mobile division has already started releasing smartphones based on next-generation technologies such as the Galaxy Fold 2.  Kwon-young has stated that the firm aims to expand its leadership of foldable displays in small and medium form-factors.

The company also aims to focus on features such as high refresh rates and low power consumption to compete against the brands that are entering the OLED space. Samsung Display also plans to develop the Quantum Display (QD) and develop a consumer portfolio for the premium category.

It’s just a matter of time that Samsung would implement its upcoming rollable and slidable displays on future Galaxy smartphones. LG has already demonstrated a similar display technology during the CES 2021 event, which confirms that Samsung already has competition in this new market.

A Galaxy S series with a foldable display could be a game-changer to compete with the likes of the big brands, along with future Samsung televisions to feature rollable displays. However, expect these types of displays and devices to be very expensive as they are comparatively new to the market.
