Review: Blueair Classic 680i Air Purifier

Air purifiers are a big business opportunity, due to aspects such as climate change, increasing pollution, and so on. And if you live in the Middle East, you got other things to worry about such as sand and allergens floating around in the air we breathe on a day to day basis.

Blueair’s Classic 680i air purifier sits in the company’s much-acclaimed 600 series. The 680i is intended for use in either offices or homes with a coverage of up to 72 sq. meters. in space. The overall design and build quality of the 680i is quite good. It fits perfectly into the overall ambience of any room, irrespective of the interior design.

Blueair’s 680i model comes with the company’s very own ‘Aware’ air quality sensors that keeps you updated on actual air quality inside your room at all times.

Setting up the 680i is a walk in the park – it literally took me 5 minutes to get it up and running after connecting it to the Blueair Friend app.

The app is available as a free download for both Android and iOS devices through their respective app stores.

Once you install the app, all you need to do is plugin the 680i into the wall unit. Next, you need to open the flap on the top of the device which reveals touch-sensitive buttons such as Wi-Fi, Fan Speed, Filter indicator and so on.

You then press the Wi-Fi button for 3 seconds and release it as soon as the Wi-Fi indicator starts blinking. This means the 680i has entered into a pairing mode with the Blueair Friend app.

And the connection is instant. Once the app is connected to the 680i, you can track stats such as the indoor air quality, outdoor air quality (sourced from third-party providers), and fully control the 680i without having to use the touch panel on the device.

The Blueair Classic 680i also comes packed with Blueair’s very own HEPASilent Technology to remove virtually all airborne pollutants. The technology uses a mix of electrostatic and mechanical filtration, along with a combination of advanced filter media and an encapsulated particle-charging chamber, to keep pollutants as far as possible from you.

Blueair claims that the 680i will bring the PM2.5 to good levels in about 30 minutes. During our tests, we found the 680i was indeed able to bring the PM2.5 levels to good rating in a little more 30 minutes. The standard warranty offered with the device is 1 year.

Blueair recommends that you change the filters on the Classic purifier every six months. Replacement filters cost $60 each and the 680i unit takes in two filters on both the sides of the device. While this may seem costly, if you are a fan of clean and fresh air, it might not seem much.

The Blueair Classic 680i really does the job when it comes to keeping indoor air quality top notch. If you suffer from asthma or allergies, you’ll want to try a quality air purifier and Blueair Classic 680i certainly fits the bill.
