Review: Orbi Dubai

Orbi Dubai is a unique entertainment destination situated in Mirdif City Center, Dubai, UAE.

It is modeled to be an indoor nature museum, complete with hands-on experience, custom-built theatre, innovative audio visual technology, and interactive walk-through touchpoints.

Orbi is the result of a collaboration between SEGA Holdings and BBC Worldwide. It fuses BBC Earth’s nature content with SEGA’s interactive technology. Orbi was originally introduced in Yokohama (Japan) in 2013 as an experimental visitor attraction. UAE is the first market in the world outside of Japan to house Orbi.

Orbi Dubai has a total of 11 attractions with each lasting between 4 to 23 minutes long. The attraction include Blue Layer (footage of the sea world), Mountain Gorilla in 4D Theater, African Elephants, Earth Cruising, Frozen Mt. Kenya, Animalpedia, Earth Palette, Extreme Photo Spot, Time Slice, Base Camp, and Earth Theater 23.4.

The technology employed by Orbi Dubai lets you experience in close proximity, the life of an elephant by transporting you to Central Africa, or the family of mountain gorillas in a BBC Earth location shoot, or view the depths of the ocean up close. As soon as you enter Orbi Dubai, the first exhibit you see is Animalpedia. This is an interactive gesture-control learning experience, that uses Kinect-like gesture control to learn about animals. And the fun starts from there.

Crowd control is brilliant. As soon as you enter Orbi Dubai, the courteous staff guides you to each of the attraction and then leave you on your own to enjoy each and every exhibit. The footage is very immersive and brilliantly shot. My four year old and 7 year old were excited to experience the life of animals up close.

Access to the whole range of exhibits and facilities at Orbi Dubai is free for children below 3 years of age. The pricing is AED 80 for children aged 3 to 8 years, and AED 100 for 10 years and above. There is also a package for a family of four members that costs AED 320. A must visit for all the nature aficionados!

Price: AED 80 (ages 3 to 10 years), AED 100 (ages 10 years and above).
