Shure AONIC 215 TW2 True Wireless Sound Isolating Earphones

Shure is one of the well-known brands in the industry to offer headphones that produce amazing audio quality. While the company offers a wide range of wireless earbud products, we got a chance to review the Shure AONIC 215 TW2 True Wireless Sound Isolating Earphones. Here are our thoughts about the new earphones.

Design

Shure’s entire AONIC wireless series earphones are based on a low-profile form factor that is inspired by the devices musicians use to monitor on-stage performances, and the new AONIC 215 TW2 wireless earphones share the same design characteristics. There is also the over-ear hook that helps to keep the earphone secure around your ears. This close-fit design is well-suited for long-wearing comfort, even during high-energy activities.

The AONIC 215 module can be detached from the over-ear hook and can be connected to other cable accessories. The review sample that we got has a transparent body where we can see the internal components of the wireless earbuds. The over the ear hook component has a circular button on the very end where we can use to control the music playback.

The location of the button is convenient for users to reach out since you don’t need to actually touch the main earphone portion. The AONIC 215 also features the IPX4 certification, which means the wireless earphone is sweat and water-resistant. The device also weighs about 20.8g each. Around the button are a small LED light, the mic hole, and the charging pins.

Speaking of charging, Shure has included a large charging case in a circular form factor. It appears to be quite larger than what the competition offers. And this could mostly be because the case will need some space to accommodate the ear hooks of the device. The Shure RMCE-TW1 charging case also uses a zipper instead of magnetic connections that are usually used by other competing models. We don’t think it’s a disadvantage of any sort and the zipper is just a traditional way of closing cases.

The charging case has a USB-C port located on the outer portion of the device. The entire package includes the RMCE-TW2 wireless adaptor set, a pair of the AONIC 215 detachable sound isolating earphones, the RMCE-TW1 charging case, one Micro-USB-C charging cable, and sleeves of both soft flex and foam type versions. The sleeves come in small, medium, and large sizes.

Features

While the AONIC 215 TW2 features an impressive and comfortable design, the earphones don’t fall short when it comes to audio quality. The device comes with a Sound Isolating design that helps to block out up to 37 dB of noise to stop distractions and enhance the immersive music experience. The audio quality is further enhanced with a premium headphone amplifier.

And if you are worried about missing out on anything important from the outside world (like a flight announcement or someone speaking to you), there is the Environment Mode that pauses the noise isolation with a touch of a button. This is very similar to the Ambient Mode that we have seen with Sony headphones. The new Shure wireless AONIC 215 wireless earphones are capable of producing very clean vocals and deep bass effects. The audio quality can be further tuned with the preset equalizers that are found on the ShurePlus PLAY application. You can also customize the EQ settings to your preferences.

The AONIC 215 TW2 wireless earphones are also fine-tuned to offer clear sounds for both stereo phone calls and video conferencing, thanks to the integrated microphones. The earphones also feature Bluetooth 5 wireless connectivity for low latency and a longer range audio transmission. Shure mentions that the range can go up to 30 feet. We used the earphones with a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 to play some music and the transmission stayed strong without any signal drops until we crossed over two to three rooms.

And when it comes to battery life, Shure mentions that the earbuds alone are capable of handling up to 8 hours of music playback. For further playback time, the charging case can provide up to three more additional charges. With both the earphones and the charging case, users will get up to 32 hours of battery life.

The earphones by themselves were able to last around a day, while we used them to make calls, watch some videos and hear music on the go. The earphones provide support for multiple codecs, including Qualcomm aptX, AAC, and SBC.

Verdict

The Shure AONIC 215 TW2 is well suited for those looking for great wireless earphones that feature a comfortable design and great audio quality. The earphones feature a unique close-fit design that sits securely around your ears for longer comfortable sessions and the Sound Isolating technology helps to block out most of the noise to eliminate distractions. And with a touch of a button, the Environment Mode connects you with anything important with the outside world.

The earphones also offer high-quality audio for normal phone calls and during video conference sessions with the integrated microphones. The quality of the audio is further enhanced with an integrated headphone amplifier. The headphones also feature Bluetooth 5 connectivity for a stable wireless connection. The earphones and the charging case together are capable of providing up to 32 hours of battery life.
