“Wearables are among the fastest-advancing technology sectors, and the pace of progress is only accelerating. In recent months, we’ve seen immense growth in the market as people turn to smartwatches and earbuds to help them thrive in the ‘Next Normal’”, said Dr. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “Since introducing our first smartwatch just seven years ago, we have become a leader in wearable innovation. Today, we’re laser-focused on building on this momentum to offer new and differentiated experiences – combined with the bold design and advanced technology that our customers have come to expect.”

The new Galaxy Watch 3 is offered in 41mm and 45mm sizes. The 41mm model features a screen size of a 1.4-inch circular display and the 45mm comes in a 1.2-inch display. Both the smartwatches comes in Super AMOLED panel and the screen resolution is 360 x 360 pixels. Samsung used the Gorilla Glass DX for screen protection on the Galaxy Watch 3. And just as in the past models, Samsung brings back the rotating bezel to easily navigate through the menu. The Galaxy Watch 3 carries the IP68 certification for dust and water resistance and also is certified with the MIL-STD-810G for better durability. Both the Galaxy Watch 3 smartwatches are powered by the Exynos 9110 dual-core processor that is clocked at 1.15 GHz. The performance is aided further with 1GB RAM and features 8GB of internal storage. Samsung has always preferred to use its own software for its wearable, and so the Galaxy Watch 3 runs on the latest Tizen 5.5 OS. As for the sensors, Samsung says the blood oxygen sensor will be usable only at a later point this year. Samsung also enhanced the sleep tracker to offer better insights and scores that understand how well do you sleep every night.

Samsung also added a series of fitness-based features to aid users as a digital partner for training, along with the capability for real-time feedback and a Running analysis, which is said to be ready to use later this year. There is also the VO2 Max readings that track the progress of your cardio. Samsung has also updated the Samsung Health application with over 120 workout videos that can be done at home since everyone is staying at home during the pandemic. It’s a thoughtful idea, to be honest. The Galaxy Watch 3 will guide you with each step of the workout while you can watch the videos from any device. Other features of the device include the ability of automatic reply options for different messages, and also with some new hand gestures such as simply clenching or unclenching your fist to pick up incoming calls. However, those who wish to disable the feature can do so from the Lab option via the Galaxy Wear application.
