Huawei’s latest MatePad Air is designed to help professional artists create stunning digital artwork

The HUAWEI MatePad Air is an entirely new line of tablets from Huawei. As the name implies, it is a portable and lightweight productivity powerhouse. With a large 11.5-inch screen with a 144 Hz refresh rate, it offers a far better display than other tablets in its class.

The high refresh rate also helps when using the M-Pencil to create a near-zero latency experience. The 3:2 aspect ratio of the display is ideal for things like writing, drawing, and reading. The key feature that makes it an attractive tablet for artists is its support for the HUAWEI M-Pencil (2nd Generation). The tablet also supports features like Colour Capture, 15x canvas zoom, personalised brushes and pressure-sensitive erasers, which give you more control over your creations.

Art is the expression of human creativity and imagination. It can take many forms, many styles, and different mediums. Similar to the evolution of art styles, art mediums also have always been constantly evolving. Now, it is possible to create art without any paint, paper, or canvas. While this offers many advantages, it also means new challenges. These days, many artists are known for employing smart tools to their advantage and creating magnificent artwork with their help.

But how do these artists deal with the evolution and change? How does the expression of creative vision shape in the digital age? Huawei approached two artists who used the HUAWEI tablet MatePad Air in their recent artwork. They shared their vision and experiences with us.

Shahul Hameed is a mural painter who runs an art studio in Dubai. He shared his journey to becoming a well-known name in the art scene. It was his passion for colours that brought him into the world of creativity. He found using great joy in crafting different colour palettes. In the beginning, he was predominantly attracted to intense hues. However, as he matured as an artist, he adopted a more nuanced approach. His more recent works have a flatter style but with more deliberate and defined features.

As a mural artist, Shahul’s canvases are usually grand in size. This massive scale brings with it some massive challenges, as well. So before the first stroke of paint is put on the wall, he has to ideate it on a smaller scale. And tablets have always been his go-to choice for this because of the flexibility that they provide. Determining the mood and trying different colour palettes are easier done on a tablet. He can change and mix colours to his heart’s content with a tablet and a stylus. Only when the concept is refined and solidified will he move on to the last phase of his work, which is putting his artistic vision onto a wall or a sidewalk.

He praised the HUAWEI MatePad Air for how easy it is to pick the colours he wants and the comfort of using a lightweight and responsive tablet for his creative work. He also noted that being an extremely portable tablet, he can carry the MatePad Air anywhere while travelling and sketch ideas when inspiration strikes. “It’s like having a mini studio in my backpack,” Shahul shared his enthusiasm about the tablet.

Ismail bin Abdulrahman, an artist based in Dubai who is trying to bring the beauty of Arabic calligraphy to the world. His unique style combines traditional calligraphy with a touch of futurism. Even though his canvas sizes aren’t as big, he too has found tablets to be a great companion in his creative process.

“The Huawei MatePad Air is amazing for making professional-looking art, just like on canvas. The tablet makes creating calligraphy an effortless and seamless experience,” he said. “It has tons of brushes to choose from and replicates the exact feel of real brushes and materials and even allows me to create personalised brushes to get the perfect shades and spray paint effects. I have a lot of fun using the MatePad Air.” “The M-Pencil feels great in hands, like holding a real paintbrush. It helps me make art with accuracy and realism. It’s also super responsive. It makes my strokes smooth and natural, just like using traditional techniques. I can be as creative as I want.” “I highly recommend the HUAWEI MatePad Air to fellow artists, especially to those interested in calligraphy,” says Ismail.

The biggest advantage of making art digitally is that it’s much easier to fix things later. A bad stroke or a wrong colour doesn’t ruin the painting. So, artists can experiment with new styles and techniques without the fear of messing up their work. Both Shahul and Ismail are optimistic about the possibilities of the digital age. Shahul notes that even though being an artist in the digital age is challenging in some ways, it also offers plenty of new opportunities that didn’t exist in the past. He said that embracing technological advancements has actually made his artistic journey easier and more fulfilling.
