Review: Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor Security Camera

User Rating: 9

Ring is popular choice for its reliable video doorbells, security, and indoor cameras. The company recently launched the new Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera, and we got a chance to try out the new device. Here are our thoughts about it.

Ring’s latest indoor camera is designed to offer indoor coverage while you are away. The device comes in both black and white colors, which easily suit any indoor space, and we received the white variant for review. The dimensions of the camera are 6.02 cm x 6.02 cm x 14.69 cm (including the stand). The speaker grills are located on the front side, below the camera lens.

There is also an LED indicator above the lens. The Ring Pan-Tilt camera comes with its own privacy cover, where users can swivel to the left side for covering the lens. And to reactivate the camera, you will need to swivel back to the right side. There are icons on the top side that indicate the position of the privacy cover.

One of the main features of the camera is its ability to provide a 360-degree pan view, and 169-degree tilt view coverage of the surroundings. The camera can basically look upwards or downwards, left and right sides, without any issues. The device is capable of capturing 1080p videos, along with two-way audio transmission and noise-cancelling capability. The two-way talk feature is very useful for situations where you want to interact with your children or your pets.

The camera is capable of panning and tilting to almost any angle, eliminating blind spots. There is a USB-C port on the rear side of the base unit. The device comes included with a white 3m USB-A to USB-C cable and a power adapter. The base remains stationary while the camera pans left and right sides.

The Ring indoor camera also features Live View, enabling users to watch the streaming in real-time, and interact with family members via the Ring application. You will be able to control the camera’s position, and also mute the mic and speakers during the live view. There is also a picture-in-picture mode for those who want to watch the stream, while using other apps. One of the best features I noticed is the capability of streaming Color Night Vision videos with vivid colors.

Users will also be able to activate motion detection and motion alerts. The application will alert you with rich text notifications, when movements are detected. There is also an option to alert siren sounds with the external front-facing camera speaker. You will also be able to view the alert history, modify alerts and snooze settings, video and snapshot settings, device settings, monitor the health of the device, and more.

The camera requires a minimum 2 Mbps internet connection for performing optimally, and connects to the 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n WiFi connections.

Verdict

For those looking for a good indoor camera with the capability to tilt and swing at all corners and angles, then we recommend the latest Ring Pan-Tilt Indoor camera. The design of the camera is simple and minimalistic, and the device is sold in white and black colors. There is a privacy cover to close the lens when its not in use, and LED light above the lens indicates the status of the camera. While the base of the camera remains stationary, the camera body is capable of providing a 360-degree pan view, and 169-degree tilt view coverage.

The two-way talking feature helps to interact with people, children, and even pets, when you are away, along with the live-view streaming that shows you real-time footage. The device uses a USB-C port for power, and Ring application gives many options to control the camera from anywhere. Setting up the camera is simple and straightforward. The motion-detection alerts feature is also a good addition for those who want to keep an eye on their home’s security while they are away, and the camera is also capable of streaming color Night Vision footage.
