Review: Samsung Galaxy Watch7

User Rating: 8.5

Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch7 series wearables offer better performance, improved performance, enhanced design, and more. We got a chance to try out the new Galaxy Watch7 44mm, and here are our thoughts about it.

Design

The Galaxy Watch7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra are the latest smartwatches Samsung has recently launched. The Watch7 comes in both 44mm and 40mm sizes, and we had received the bigger model as a review sample. Unlike the previous generation, Samsung did not release a Classic model for the Watch7 line-up. The device sports a 1.5-inch circular Super AMOLED touchscreen panel, featuring a screen resolution of 480 x 480 pixels, 327 ppi of screen brightness, and Always-on functionality.

The dimensions of the Watch7 are 44.4 x 44.4 x 9.7 mm, and the device weighs 33.8 g. The main screen is made of Sapphire crystal, and the main body is made of an Armor aluminum 2 frame. We should also mention that the device is IP68-certified for 50m/5 ATM water resistance. The home and back buttons are located on the right side of the watch. Both the home button and the back button feature an integrated Electrical bio-signal sensor. There is also a microphone hole in between the buttons. The speakers are located on the bottom left side of the device.

There is also an atmospheric pressure sensor on the top bezel side of the watch. The band that comes with the watch is detachable, and the design of the buckle helps to hide the remaining length of the band. The Watch7 is available to purchase in both cream and green color options. On the contrary, the design of the buckle and the eject buttons to detach the bands were also seen on the previous Galaxy Watch6.

On the rear side of the device, you will be able to see the sensors, which include the Optical and Electrical bio-signal sensors in the middle, an infrared temperature sensor, and a pressure vent. Apart from the 5 ATM+IP68 certification, the watch is also a MIL-STD-810H certified smartwatch for better durability.

Features

Powering the Watch7 is the Exynos W1000, a 3nm penta-core processor that runs with Android Wear OS 5 with One UI Watch 6 enhancements. The SoC features the Mali-G68 integrated GPU, and is aided with 2GB RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. The performance of the device is smooth, thanks to the upgraded specs, and the user interface is smooth to operate without any lags. You will be able to customize several factors of the watch with the Samsung Wear application, including changing watch faces, settings of the device, installing applications, firmware updates, and more.

Samsung has integrated its Galaxy AI on the new Galaxy Watch7, along with a new feature called Energy Score. It basically calculates your physical capability for the present day, based on the activities done the previous day. There is also the addition of Personalized FTP, which estimates your Functional Threshold Power, based on your heart rate. Galaxy AI also suggests users with quick replies from the watch by analyzing your text conversations.

The Galaxy AI also helps in personalized fitness tracking, whether it’s your next running session, a bike ride, swimming, and more. For better motivation, the watch also offers badges when you hit a personal high score record. Galaxy AI will also give suggestions on improving your health and well-being, whether its for sleep patterns, daily exercises, weight management, and more. Other fitness features include, heart rate sensor, stress measurement, blood pressure measurement, ECG, step counter, and more.

While there is also a skin temperature sensor (same as the previous Galaxy Watch6), we were disappointed of the fact that Samsung has still not introduced a dedicated app for measuring the temperature of the skin, and its only found as a part of the sleeping tracking functionality. Users will have to rely on third-party apps, such as the Thermo Check.

The smartwatch also features Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, along with Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, and NFC wireless connectivity. Users will also be able to accept calls with the smartwatch. The Watch7 also houses a 425 mAh Li-Ion battery with support for 10W wireless Qi charging. According to our usage, the watch was able to last almost a day of use.

Verdict

If you are on the lookout for a great smartwatch or plan to upgrade from your old Galaxy Watch, then we recommend the new Galaxy Watch7. The device features a large 1.5-inch circular Super AMOLED screen, and the screen resolution is 480 x 480 pixels. The Always-on display also comes with Sapphire crystal glass. The smartwatch comes certified with IP68 for water resistance and MIL-STD-810H for durability, and the two external buttons feature electrical bio-sensors.

The smartwatch weighs only 33.8 g and features the Armor aluminum 2 frame for better durability. Apart from the Exynos W1000 SoC, 2GB RAM, and 32GB of storage, the device runs on Android Wear OS 5 with One UI Watch 6 user interface. Samsung has also included the Galaxy AI to aid users with their daily fitness routines and suggest tips to improve their health. Users will be able to measure their heart rates, blood pressure, ECG, stress, steps, sleep counters, and more. The device uses Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 5.3 to sync with your smartphone for notifications and calls.
