Logitech recently expanded its MX series lightweight mouse lineup with the launch of its MX Anywhere 3S. We got a chance to try out the device, and here are our thoughts about the new wireless mouse.
The MX Anywhere 3S, as the name implies, is designed to be a portable, small-sized mouse that does not compromise in terms of both ergonomics and performance. The mouse weighs only 99 g and features a dimension of 100.5 mm height, 65 mm width, and 34.4 mm depth.
The MX Anywhere 3S is available in four different colors, which include Graphite, Rose, Pale Grey, and Black. As you can see, we received the black version for review. While the mouse shares a similar design as its predecessor, the MX Anywhere 3, there are some aesthetic improvements. The top-sided Magspeed scroll wheel is silver in color, and next to it is a button to switch between scroll modes: ratchet scroll and hyper-fast scroll. There is also an LED indicator on the top, along with the “logi” logo on the top side.
The left side of the mouse features the dual buttons for different operations such as volume control, quick page scroll, or previous and forward functions. There is also a groovy design on the side that feels very comfortable to hold while using the mouse.
Unlike the main chassis, the bottom side of the mouse is grey in color. The bottom side also features four silicon feet, a power toggle switch, and a button to choose between wired, Bluetooth, or 2.4 GHz WiFi modes. Logitech also mentions that the MX Anywhere 3S is capable of working on any surface, including glass, thanks to the new Darkfield 8K DPI sensor. This ensures that users will be able to use the mouse anywhere without the need for a mousepad.
Logitech claims that the MX Anywhere 3S is capable of quiet-click operations and fewer distractions, while having the same satisfactory clicks as the previous model. We were impressed by how quiet the clicks sound and the tactile feedback it produces. The mouse is compatible to connect between.
The device features the high-precision Darkfield DPI sensor that is capable of a minimum of 200 DPI and a maximum of 8000 DPI. By choosing 8K DPI, you will be able to cover a lot of area on the screen with less movement of the mouse. We should mention that the USB-C port is on the front side of the device, and the mouse comes with a 500 mAh battery. You can get almost 3 hours of work time with just a minute of charge. A fully charged MX Anywhere 3S can last up to 70 days. When connecting to any Windows, MacOS or Linux, you will be prompted to install the Logitech Options+ application, where you can customize various aspects of the mouse, do firmware updates, and more.
The packaging includes the MX Anywhere 3S mouse, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and user documentation. Unfortunately, the device does not come with a 2.4 GHz module, which is quite strange. Logitech mentions that users will be required to buy the Logi Bolt USB Receiver separately, and the mouse is not compatible with other Logitech USB receivers, which is quite a let-down for existing Logitech users. To reduce the carbon footprint, Logitech mentions that the new mouse is made of post-consumer recycled plastics and the packaging is made of paper from FSC-certified forests.
Verdict
We are impressed by how comfortable it is to use the mouse and the feedback it produces with its quiet clicks. The MX Anywhere 3S is also a device that works on any surface, including glass, which is one of the most challenging situations to use a mouse. This is possible thanks to the high-precision Darkfield 8K DPI sensor integrated on the device. The mouse comes in a variety of color options that match today’s popular laptop colors.
The easy-switch bottom trigger helps to switch between different devices easily, and the mouse is compatible with Windows, MacOS and Linux devices. The 500 mAh built-in charger is capable of lasting a couple of months on a full charge. Logitech also provides two years of limited hardware warranty for the mouse.
