Amazon recently unveiled its latest generation of Echo smart speakers and devices, and we got to try out the new Amazon Echo Dot Max (2025). Here are our thoughts about the speaker.
Design
The new Amazon Echo Dot Max features a spherical chassis, with dimensions of 108.7 mm of width, 108.6 mm of height, and 99.2 mm of depth. The device weighs about 505.3 g, and comes in three different colors, which include graphite, glacier white, and amethyst. We got the glacier white model for review.
The front side of the speaker features a simple front-facing control setup, which includes the volume increase and decrease touch-sensitive surfaces and the mute button in the middle. The addition of the privacy-based mute button is for those who don’t want Alexa to hear the surrounding conversations. There is also a ring-shaped LED on the front side, which lights up when communicating with Alexa and during other operations.
The device features a 3D knit fabric covering that matches any kind of surrounding, allowing you to place it anywhere without worrying if it looks good.
The power connector is located on the rear side of the device, and it still uses the standard power connector. Unfortunately, there are no USB-C connectors for power delivery.
The contents of the box include an Echo Dot Max (2025), a 22W power adapter, and a quick start guide.
Features
The new Echo Dot Max sits as the second largest model of the Echo speaker line-up, with the Echo Studio as the flagship model. The device features a 0.80-inch tweeter and a 2.5-inch woofer that has support for Lossless High Definition and Automatic Room Adaptation technologies. Amazon mentions that the new speaker is capable of crisp vocals and deep bass. The device can also be synced with other Echo devices to enhance the overall audio experience. The speaker is capable of handling audio bandwidth between 53 Hz and 16 kHz.
The device comes powered by the AZ3 processor with AI Accelerator. The speaker also has support for smart home hubs such as Zigbee, Matter, and Thread Border Router. Sensors include an ambient temperature sensor, an ambient light sensor, presence detection, and an accelerometer. The device is compatible with Wi-Fi 6E 11a/b/g/n/ac/ax wireless connectivity and also features the low-power Bluetooth 5.3.
