Ring recently unveiled its latest 2024 edition of the Battery Video Doorbell, featuring a rechargeable battery, color night vision, motion detection, and more. We got a chance to try out the new smart doorbell, and here are our thoughts about it.
The new Ring Battery Video Doorbell is designed to be an easy-to-install device on almost any type of door. The doorbell features a Satin Nickel chassis, along with a glossy black top side that houses the camera module. The doorbell also comes with a Venetian Bronze color option. There is also the circular and illuminated doorbell button on the front side, along with the placement of the Ring logo. The camera module also has its own microphone hole on the front side.
Ring has designed the new next-generation doorbell for anyone to use and set up easily. Since the device comes with a rechargeable battery, you can also easily unclip the doorbell from the wall, using the included removal tool. Ring mentions that the doorbell’s battery can last for many days without charging, and also can be hardwired to an existing doorbell installation for continuous charging. Alternatively, you can also implement the Solar Charger for the doorbell for a few hours of daily charging by direct sunlight. The doorbell can be charged with a USB-C cable.
While the previous doorbell models already offer video capabilities and voice communication, the new Ring Battery Video Doorbell is capable of new features such as Head-to-Toe HD Video for a wider view of the surroundings from the Ring app, Colour Night Vision for better night capability, and more. You still get the core features, such as Live View with Two-Way Talk, the customizable Motion Zones and detection alerts. And if you are not in the position of answering the doorbell, the Quick Replies comes in handy where a series of pre-recorded audio messages are played when the doorbell is pressed (similar to an answering machine).
The new doorbell is capable of 1080p video capture at a 16:9 aspect ratio, and 1440 x 1440 HD video capture at a 1:1 aspect ratio. Ring has also included a new smart notification called Package &
Person Alerts, where the device is able to identify and inform if a courier delivery or a package has arrived at your doorstep. For those who are subscribed to the Ring Home Subscription, the visitors can leave a message, which can be heard later by the owner. The Ring Home subscription also allows saving of all video captures to your Ring account, and can be set up for 180 days. However, the default storage life of captured videos is 30 days. That said, the images captured by the doorbell are saved for up to a week on the Ring account.
The new Ring Battery Video Doorbell also requires a 2.4GHz 802.11 b/g/n WIFI connection for it to stay connected, and users will be able to monitor and control the device using the Ring application. The box contents include the Battery Video Doorbell, a USB-C charging cable, a Mounting Bracket, some installation tools, a setup guide, and a security sticker.
