AOC seems to be on a product launching spree. The company recently unveiled a wide range of monitors at Infocomm this year. Among the new products launched at Infocomm 2013 included the company’s G2460Pqu 24-inch LED monitor targeted at hardcore gamers in the Middle East region. If you are a gamer, you probably know that a monitor with high speed refresh rates matter, including colour accuracy.
The AOC G2460Pqu monitor comes with a blazing fast 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms grey to grey response rate. We received the AOC G2460Pqu LED monitor in a bigger than usual packaging. Once out of the box, we understood why the packaging was bulkier – the stand was already fitted to the monitor. All you need to do now is to add the base to it.
The G2460Pqu’s Twisted Numatic panel has a solid feel with a brushed grey plastic bevel and a sizeable rear platform housing the PSU and electronics. The 4-way adjustable stand allows you to change the monitor height by 130mm. You can even swivel the monitor left and right, tilt the screen angle, and pivot 90º till you find the set-up that works for you.
The stand is also height-adjustable and the screen can be positioned in landscape or portrait mode. The monitor feels sturdy and is quite Well built with lots of interfaces such as HDMI, USB 2.0, VGA, DVI, DisplayPort 1.2 and so on. These ports can be used to connect a variety of devices – from gaming consoles and Blu-ray players to gaming PCs and laptops.
You however would want to note that only the DVI and DisplayPort sockets can offer a resolution of 1920-by-1080 pixels with a 144-Hz refresh rate. Audio on the monitor is covered by a pair of built-in speakers and a jack for plugging in headphones. The speakers are located around the back of the screen, and the performance of the bass and high frequencies was average.
In order to really use the G2460Pqu to the optimum level, you need to be using devices that come with dedicated graphics hardware, such as the Mac Pro. Devices such as the Mac Pro support a refresh rate of 144-Hz. Otherwise, on a normal usage pattern, the refresh rate of the monitor is limited to 60-Hz, which defeats the whole purpose of having invested in such a display.
When it came to real world tests, the AOC G2460Pqu did a good job. Images were bright and crisp, with a real depth of colour (such as vibrant reds, greens, blues, and deep blacks) that didn’t look washed out when used in a bright environment. The performance of the monitor reierates that it was essentially made fo watching movies and gaming.
The AOC G2460Pqu is indeed an attractive proposition. The refresh and response rates are brilliant and the performance is also good. The G2460Pqu is also remarkably priced at $289, which makes it a good value for money gaming panel. Hence, the AOC G2460Pqu earns a Recommended nod from Review Central.
