Review: SanDisk Extreme Plus Micro SDXC 1 (64GB)

RecommendedSanDisk’s new Extreme Plus microSDXC UHS-I card is really for those who seek speed and performance when accessing content on their smartphones or tablets. The card is available in storage capacities ranging from 16GB to 64GB. SanDisk sent us the 64GB version with the adapter for this review.

The memory card is rated with both UHS Speed Class 1 (U1) and Class 10 for video recording. This means the card will be able to support video recording of Full HD video (1080p), which usually requires more performance than ordinary memory cards can handle.

On the packaging, SanDisk claims a read speed of up to 80MB/s and write speed of up to 50MB/s. In addition, SanDisk claims that their Extreme PLUS range of memory cards are waterproof, x-ray proof, temperature proof, and shockproof. That’s quite impressive.

In order to gauge the performance of the Extreme Plus Micro SDHC 1 card, we put it through a couple of benchmarks, namely IOMeter and ATTO. During the ATTO disk benchmark, it was quite clear that the Class 10 Extreme MicroSD card from SanDisk was simply throwing out blazing fast results.

Both read and write speeds were pretty impressive. We were able to clock 82MB/s read speed and 53MB/s write speeds in ATTO on the Sandisk Extreme Plus Micro SDXC 1 64GB card.

IOMeter also agreed with what we saw on the ATTO benchmark. Sequential read and write speeds were measured in at 92.0MB/s and 60.5MB/s respectively, outperforming the top-in-class microSDHC cards we have seen from other brands.

If you are into taking Full HD videos or high megapixel images, there is definitely a need to get a faster MicroSD Card, and from what we have seen in the performance department, SanDisk Extreme Plus Micro SDXC 1 does its job quite well.

In conclusion, all we can say is if you want speed and performance on your tablets, smartphones, and any other device that supports an SDXC card, the SanDisk Extreme Plus Micro SDXC 1 could be something you could consider. The SanDisk Extreme Plus Micro SDXC 1 earns our Recommended nod.
