SanDisk’s new Ultra microSDXC UHS-I memory card is being touted to be the world’s largest capacity microSD card. The company sent us this card for review, which is smaller than the size of a fingernail.
The card comes with a 128GB of storage capacity, and offers ample space for photos and videos captured with your camera or smartphone. The card also offers an SD Class 10 rating along with an Ultra High Speed Class 1 rating, for read speeds up to 30MB/s and lower write speeds that should at least be able to exceed the Class 10 minimum of 10MB/s.
The SD Card adapter that accompanies the memory card also comes with a built-in write-protect switch that prevents accidental data loss. The cards are specifically designed for Android smartphones and tablets, though you can use them with any device that accepts SDXC cards.
According to SanDisk, the Ultra microSDXC UHS-I Card is waterproof, protects data against airport X-rays, and is capable of withstanding up to 500G of shock. SanDisk also offers the SanDisk Memory Zone app which allows you to view, access, and backup all of your files from your phone’s memory into the memory card.
As part of the SanDisk Memory Zone app, the company also offers a new feature called OptiMem, which allows Android users to enhance their phone’s internal memory by automatically transferring some of their old photos and videos to their microSD card. OptiMem will continuously monitor the user’s mobile device memory levels, and inform them whenever the internal memory falls below a pre-defined threshold.
The overall performance of the SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card is quite good. Since it is rated at Ultra High Speed Class 1, the read and write speeds are definitely much better than most microSDXC cards on the market. This one is a must-have if you own a smartphone or a tablet and find yourself running out of disk space quite often.
Price: The card is available in 8GB to 128GB capacties, with prices ranging from $29.99 to $199.99.
