The FUJINON XF56mmF1.2 R APD will be added to the X-Series interchangeable lens arsenal in December 2014.
The FUJINON XF56mmF1.2 R APD is an autofocus lens for Fujifilm’s premium class of X-series cameras with APS-C size sensors and provides a focal length equivalent to 85mm (according to 35mm format). The lens has a maximum aperture of F1.2 making it the world’s brightest autofocus lens for digital cameras with an APS-C sensor.
Additionally, the new apodizing filter makes it the perfect choice for photography enthusiasts interested in portrait photography capturing the minute details and providing a rich and unique bokeh effect.
“If we study the history of lens and optics, an apodization filter has only been used on a manual focus lens. Fujifilm, for the very first time, have incorporated apodization into an autofocusing lens – the XF56mmF1.2 R APD, one of our best prime lenses available in the market. Combined with an X Series camera body, the complete kit enables the photographer to capture images with high details,” stated Yuta Kawamura, marketing manager, electronic imaging division, Fujifilm Middle East & Africa.
This lens is light in weight and highly portable. When attached to an X Series camera body, it weighs about half* to that of a single-lens reflex camera with a lens of the same focal length and F value.
The lens is so constructed that it not only produces beautiful bokeh, but also maintains the sharpness with accurate focusing even in a shallow depth-of-field. This is where SLR systems fall short when compared to Mirrorless cameras as the focusing is handled by the image sensor (in Mirrorless) rather than on a separate phase detection (PD) sensor. Also, the XF56mmF1.2 R APD is quick to use thanks to the high-speed, quiet autofocus. Without the shutter sound being a problem to the photographers, it’s easy to capture natural shots of the subject.
When used with an X series camera, the lens offers brilliant levels of sharpness even at the maximum aperture of F1.2. The apodization filter smoothes the bokeh’s outlines resulting in sharp portraits with beautiful bokeh, giving the image a three-dimensional feel.
Optical errors – ghosting and flare won’t be a problem for the photographers. These errors are controlled and minimized by the application of Fujifilm’s unique lens coating – HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) on the surface of the lens.
