Review: Oppo R7

Oppo is known for its innovative designs and has always won people’s heart but the Chinese brand tag doesn’t go away that easy. The design of the rotating camera was first introduced by this company. Now, for the R7 this is not the case but don’t worry this Ultra slim will take you by “aw” and amazement.

This new phone has a 6.3 mm sleek body design with a 5 inch screen and has a 67.77 % screen to body ratio. This seems like an apt for phones since phones bigger than 5.0 inches seem a little bulky to handle.  The sleekness of the phone is admirable but the compromise on the battery because of it is not.

They might be giving us a little expensive phone but they are giving us the entire package. A 64 Bit Octa – Core processor with 3 Gigabytes of RAM and a GPU which can run every latest game available for Androids, i.e., Adreno 405. The phone comes with high end specifications and ensures lag free performance (not guaranteed, however).

Coming down to business, the phone comes with a 2.5 GHz Octa – Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 MSM8939 processor with Quad – core 1.5 GHz Cortex – A53 and Quad – core 1 GHz Cortex – A53 as the CPU. As aforementioned, the phone has an Adreno 405 as the GPU which is quite a powerful one as compared to others. The Phone has a 13 MP primary camera and an 8 MP secondary camera. The primary camera uses Schneider – Kreuznach Optics and records 1080p @ 30 fps.

The phone comes with a 2320 MAh battery which discharges pretty quickly as compared to those with high MAh percentage. However, this is compensated by the fact that device charges up to 75% in mere 30 minutes.

I’ve already discussed the slim and sleek design of the Oppo R7 and since it has a little large screen to large ratio, it looks a bit bigger than the other 5 inch phones. The phone comes with a metal body and gives a strong grip and protects the phone like its HTC One. However, the use of grip covers is recommended to avoid the phone from physical damage. Secondly, the phone comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and keeps the phone away from scratches and minor falls, so here, the use of tempered glass is sometimes known to be useful but it’s up to you.

Talking about the physical buttons, this dual SIM 4G phone has 3 capacitive touch buttons for back, home and recent apps and two volume rockers.

The phone comes loaded with Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. As of now, no software updates have been received and even though Android M’s launch is expected soon. Oppo phones come loaded with ColorOS UI, this case version 2.1, which is a slight modification of the stock and comes with very little bloat – ware compared to other OS(s) like Samsung and HTC Sense.

The New Oppo R7 has an ultra slim design which has no match and a touch like no other but the price tag may be a deal – breaker but don’t forget to check it out.

Price: AED 1800 approx.
