Apple has mastered the art of designing laptops. Following the brand’s signature style, the MacBook 2016 is extremely thick measuring merely 0.5 inches. The aluminium body makes the machine quite sturdy. Apple even added an interesting colour choice to this laptop.
Calling the rose-gold MacBook 2016 girlish is unwise. The slight pink hue looks absolutely stunning and complements the design scheme of the device. The MacBook 2016 is virtually weightless. It is pretty difficult to sense its presence in a backpack. Using the 12 inch device is super convenient, especially for people who commute a lot.
One major bummer in the laptop’s design is the lack of ports. With just a single USB-C type port, connectivity is extremely limited. Yes, it is possible to rectify the issue with the use of a multi-port adapter, but after shelling a considerable chunk of cash, one would not want to spend even more just to buy accessories that provide basic connectivity.
The device comes with an absolutely flat keyboard. Well, that is understandable considering the extremely low thickness of the machine. The keyboard is unique, even when compared to the MacBook Air. However, after a couple of hours, the uneasiness while typing goes away.
The butterfly mechanism utilized by the keyboard is pretty great. Calling it perfect would be a lie, but it isn’t unsatisfactory at all. The force touch touchpad is simply amazing and there is nothing to complaint it. The most impressive part is the MacBook 2016s display.
The incredible resolution of 2304 x 1440 pixels is mesmerizing. 4K videos look the way they should! In fact, the MacBook 2016’s resolution is much better than the MacBook Air (1400 x 900 pixels). When it comes to design, the MacBook 2016 leaves behind all its competitors.
It is undeniable that the MacBook 2016 is more powerful than its predecessor. The device comes in two configurations. The less expensive one features a 6th generation 1.1-GHz Core M3 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of flash storage. The costlier version comes with a better 1.2-GHz M5 processor, the same RAM and 512GB of flash storage.
The integrated Intel 515 GPU is decent, but it’s not capable of graphic intense tasks or games. The GPU is same in both versions of the MacBook 2016. Given that the device is incredibly thin, the audio quality is just too good. The speaker can easily manage loud volumes without dampening the quality.
This is a an unexpected gift in MacBook 2016. However, the device isn’t all good. There is bad in it, and the most noticeable is its webcam. At such a heavy price, 480p is unacceptable. For people who use Facetime frequently, this is a major letdown. Overall, the MacBook 2016 impresses on the performance front.
The MacBook 2016 is supposed to survive about 10 hours of web browsing on a single charge. Fortunately, the device proves the claims to be true. The device lasts for at least 9 hours and 40 minutes even when the brightness is maximum. The MacBook 2016 beats XPS 13 in this respect, but fails to beat the Vaio Z and X1 Carbon.
When compared to its predecessor, the MacBook 2016 is a definite improvement. Apple did give the device a performance boost and better battery life, but failed to overcome the shortcomings of the previous model. The pros do outweigh the cons, but some minor changes can take this device to perfection.
