Review: BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor

Curved monitors are the new sexy when it comes to gamers. The flat, tall and narrow displays are what attract gamers nowadays. The BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor is the latest competitor in the battle for the perfect gaming display. The competitors of this monitor prove to inferior as the latest BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor features a lot of intelligent features.

Free sync, G-sync and the ability to change the curve of the monitor give an edge to the BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor. The G-sync feature allows the monitor to run in 144Hz mode in an efficient manner.

The curve is the BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor is a very neat one. If there were enough laptops aligned together, the curve formed would have a radius of 2000mm. Being one segment of a full circle, the viewing angles and the way in which the monitor curves around the user are really good.

Racing games look absolutely stunning on the BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor. The other generes look stellar as well. The new curved design feels awkward at first. But, after a little getting used to, the intelligence behind the design presents itself. The default resolution of the display is 2,560 x 1,080.

The resolution is considerably lower than the competitors. Also, the pixel density of 79 pixels per inch is also lower than the competitors that offer 110 pixels per inch. However, the decreased resolution is a good thing for graphic cards. A wide variety of graphic cards will be able to run the latest games on the BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor’s native resolution.

This monitor is capable of rendering as much as 16.7 million colours. The 8-bit VA screen makes for excellent contrast and amazing black levels. The most impressive aspect of the BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor is its syncing. The supreme refresh rate of 144Hz is a great thing for gaming.

The inclusion of USB ports would have been nice. However, the BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor boasts software features that boost video quality, an amazing refresh rate, a stellar plus sturdy design and an anti-glare layer.

The VR powered panel of the BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor definitely delivers when it comes to image quality and performance. The contrast ratio is an impressive 1,700:1 and the brightness measures to be 340 nits. The black level is quite deep and measures 0.2 nits.

However, the input lag of the BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor is not impressive at all. The average input speed of 23.9 ms is not even close to the ideal gaming measure. However, the input lag is not visible to a large extent, but hardcore and professional gamers will surely notice it.

The curved screen is impressive for some people while it is downright stupid for others. However, the curve radius is quite impressive. The 144Hz mode is also quite good for gaming. However, adaptive syncing features are missing in this monitor. Also, its rivals provide better resolution and colours. The absence of USB ports and speakers is felt as well. The design is awesome, so is the contrast ratio. The BenQ XR3501 Gaming Monitor is an exceptional device in some aspects, but not in all!
