Review: Photofast iType-C 64GB

EditorsChoicePhotofast is a Taiwanese company that is well known for its innovative storage devices designed for iOS and Android devices. The company recently announced another innovative storage device that features four ways to connect. Called iType-C, the device features a USB Type-C connector, a USB 3.0 connector, a Lightning connector and a micro USB connector – all crammed into one little device.

The device is currently available in storage capacities ranging from 64GB to 200GB. We received the 64GB version for a test drive. The iType-C is a dream-come-true device for anyone who’s been looking for one storage device that can plug into all kinds of devices, irrespective of which port it has.

The device allows you to plug it into the latest MacBooks with a Type-C port, transfer data (music, video and more) to its internal storage, and then plug the device into iPad, iPhone or Android device to view that data directly from the adapter’s flash memory. All this, without having to go through iTunes.

In order to use the device, you need to first install the PhotoFast app onto your iOS or Android device. Once that is done, go wild with moving over whatever you have got between your PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices, seamlessly.

The PhotoFast iType-C is tiny and weighs just 17-gms – hence, it is easy to stick it in a bag or pocket and carry with you. The PhotoFast One App is one of the better designed apps we have seen around. It let’s you back up music, photos, videos, documents, and contacts, with ease.

The app also comes with support for cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and iCloud Drive. What’s more, you can also use it back up photo albums from Facebook and Instagram.

The Photofast iType-C solves lots of issues. For one, you don’t have to worry about upgrading your iCloud account, when you run out of cloud storage. In addition, you don’t have to opt for the higher storage model of an iOS device, simply because you imagine yourself running out of storage soon. Also, you can move your devices between various OS platforms without having to involve iTunes as the middle man.

Using the device and the app is quite intuitive, as there is no learning curve involved. Though the data transfer speeds are average, the drive does the job it is designed to do. If you are on the market, looking for one storage device that you can use between multiple operating systems, you can’t go wrong with the Photofast iType-C.
