Epson has been big with printers that feature the new ink tank systems that promise affordable and quality prints. The company’s new L655 ink tank system printer aspires to deliver on that promise.
The L655 printer comes packed with Epson’s very own PrecisionCore technology printhead. This technology uses a thin film piezo printhead that merges advances in materials science and MEMS fabrication with Epson’s deep portfolio of inkjet technologies.
The L655 also offers features such as Fax, Scan and Copy, and thus is suitable for small offices and home use. Setting up the printer is a breeze. All you need to do is fill up the ink tanks with inks from ink bottles that accompany the printer. To setup the printer, install the drivers first, connect the printer to your network (wired or wireless), and then add the printer through device manager.
The L655 supports a wide range of remote functions such as Epson iPrint, which lets you print from and scan directly to your smart device or online cloud storage services. Epson’s Email Print lets you print to any Email Print enabled Epson printer from any devices or PC with email access.
The printer’s Remote Print Driver allows you to print to a compatible Epson printer anywhere in the world via the Internet using a PC with Remote Print driver or from mobile devices via the Epson iPrint app. And the printer’s Scan to Cloud lets you share your scans through email or store them online in cloud storage services.
What’s more, the Epson L655 also supports Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print and Mopria Print Service. The L655 prints black and white documents with razor sharp text that are water and smudge-resistant. You can also print lab-quality glossy photos on photo media paper.
In addition, the L655 allows you to print on automatic duplex. On paper, Epson claims that the L655 offers print speeds of up to 13.7ipm (image per minute) for standard print, and draft print speeds of up to 33ppm. Epson also claims the L655 offers an automatic duplex printing speed of up to 6.5ipm.
In real world tests, we were able to clock 10.2ipm for standard prints, 28ppm for draft prints, and 4.1ipm for duplex prints. Epson’s L series printers are designed to offer ultra-low-cost printing, high-volume ink bottles, and reliable operation. After spending almost a month with the printer, we have to say that the L655 delivers on all those promises.
The high acquisition cost of the printer may be a shocker for home users. However, if you are setting up an office and are looking for a reliable and cost-effective printer, in terms of consumables cost, the Epson L655 could be one of the options you could look at.
