Huawei’s sub-brand, Honor, now has an excellent phone coming in at a very attractive price point of AED 919. Called Honor 6X, this slim smartphone with dual-camera setup is beautiful both inside and outside.
Clad in a sleek metal body, that is just 8.2mm thick, the phone comes in three color variants – gold, silver and grey. The one we received for review was the golden variant. The Honor 6X features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920-by-1080p) display. The phone also boasts of 2.5D glass on the front and curved panel on the back.
Though the phone comes in with a very affordable price tag, the overall look and feel and build quality of the phone feels premium. On the left edge, you will find a dual SIM slot, which takes up either two nano SIMs or one nano SIM and a micro SD card.
On the right edge, you will find the volume rockers and the power button. On the bottom of the phone, you will find the speaker grilles and a micro USB port for all your charging and data syncing needs.
On the top edge, there’s a microphone pinhole and a 3.5mm audio jack. At the back of the device, is where the magic happens. You will find a dual-camera setup along with an LED flash module next to it and the fingerprint sensor below the cameras.
The dual-camera setup is made up of a primary 12-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel camera. The main 12-megapixel camera is responsible for the composition of the image, while the 2-megapixel camera gets the depth of field information.
The camera also features a wide aperture of F/0.95. The Honor 6X also uses Phase Detection Auto Focus technology, which allows for a very fast camera focus speed of 0.3 seconds.
Under the hood, the Honor 6X runs on a Kirin 655 octacore processor. The Kirin 655 processor itself packs in four cores clocked at 2.1GHz and another four at 1.7 GHz. In terms of memory, the Honor 6X comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of built-in storage space. The storage space can be further expanded by using a microSD card.
The Honor 6X is a 4G LTE smartphone. In terms of battery, the phone comes packed with a 3340mAh battery. On a single charge, we were able to clock 1.5 days of usage, which was pretty amazing.
As it is with most Huawei and Honor phones, the fingerprint scanner on the device is easily the fastest we have seen on the market. The fingerprint scanner lets you to not only unlock the device, but to also accomplish a wide range of tasks.
You can use the fingerprint sensor to take a photo or video by merely touching it when you are inside the camera app. By touching and holding the sensor, you can also accept incoming calls and turn off alarms.
In addition, by sliding on the fingerprint sensor, you can check out the notification panel. When you are inside the photo gallery, you can browse through photos by merely swiping left or right on the fingerprint sensor.
The Honor 6X also lets you store private content inside a safe / vault, which can be accessed only through the use of the fingerprint sensor. The vault allows you to store images, videos, music and files.
In terms of camera performance, the Honor 6X shines. The dual-camera performance is quite brilliant and we ended up with awesome looking photos with depth of field. Under good lighting conditions, the phone was able to capture some amazing shots.
For those feeling creative, the Honor 6X offers various modes such as aperture mode, professional mode, food mode, perfect selfie, beauty mode, panorama, and HDR. Even under lowlight conditions, we were able to capture good-looking photos.
User experience is quite brilliant on the Honor 6X, which uses Huawei’s very own Emotion UI. Emotion UI is easily one of the better user interfaces we’ve come across on Android phones. It works well and doesn’t drag the phone down.
For a price of AED 919, you get a beautifully crafted smartphone, brilliant dual-camera setup, excellent UI and good performance. The Huawei Honor 6X thus comes across as a highly recommended smartphone.
