First Look at the New Nokia 8

HMD has just launched its newest flagship onto the regional market – the new Nokia 8. The new smartphone, which will go on sale in September, is packed with features that make it as powerful as all of its Android rivals.

HMD Global, the company behind Nokia’s return to the smartphone market, has already launched three mid-range devices this year but the Nokia 8 seems to be by far the best to date.

HMD was created last year by ex-Nokia execs who acquired the intellectual property required to make phones from Nokia. This included branding and technology. It has partnered with Foxconn to manufacture the devices.

The device is powered by Android Nougat 7.1.1 and comes packed with a 5.3-inch WQHD LCD display that offers an always-on technology. Under the hood, the phone runs Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor, which has been powering most recent flagships launched onto the market.

The phone also comes with dual rear ZEISS cameras rated at 13MP each – one color and one monochrome and a 13MP front camera. Nokia claims that the phone produces some of the best low light photography in the business.

A brand new feature that makes its debut with the new Nokia 8 is the “Bothie” feature that lets you record videos using the front and rear camera at the same time. This Dual-Sight function simultaneously harnesses the front and rear cameras in a split screen visual for both photos and videos which can even been live streamed via services such as Facebook.

There sure are a few apps out there on the market that mimic the “Bothie” feature such as Frontback, PhoTWO, and Front & Back Camera – Dual Selfie Camera Effect. However, Nokia 8 is possibly the first smartphone that comes with this feature built into the camera app.

Nokia 8 is also the first smartphone to feature something called OZO Audio. This, according to Nokia, is a sound technology that brings a fully immersive 360 degree audio experience to any videos you record on the device.

Other specs of the device include 4GB RAM and 64GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded to up to 256G using a microSD card. The phone is powered by a 3090 mAh battery and it supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology.

User who appreciate minimalism will love the fact that the Nokia 8 runs stock Android. The company has also said that the Nokia 8 will probably be the one of the very first non-Google phones to get the Android O update.

There are four colours to choose from including a very shiny Polished Copper and more subtle Tempered Blue. The Nokia 8 is expected to be commercially available in the month of September 2017, at a price tag of AED 1,699.
