Global Village, the region’s first and largest multicultural festival park, and family destination for culture, shopping and entertainment, has announced that it will continue its successful Car Boot Sale. The Car Boot Sale will be held every Friday at Parking Lot A between 1 pm and 5 pm and this schedule will continue till the end of Season 22.
The Car Boot Sale creates an informal market and brings a number of sellers and buyers in one place as they avail of free entry and parking at Global Village. As in a flea market, it offers bargains galore with the added benefit that sales are done from the back of the seller’s car. They can rent a spot for merely AED 150, load their boot up with their unwanted toys, clothes, books, and any other products and drive them directly to the parking spot they will sell from.
The car boot sale at Global Village brings many more advantages to sellers and buyers. As at any such sale, traditional ‘car booters’ (sellers) can be found selling their second hand goods but at Global Village, traders tables also sell handmade crafts, toys, sweets, collectives, cloths and a collection of other products. There is a children’s entertainment area that offers face painting, petting zoo, and soft play area as well as food and drink stands, toilet and ATM facilities.
Commenting on the new innovation that Global Village has brought to the UAE this year, Bader Anwahi, Global Village CEO, said: “This is another step we have taken to make Global Village the most preferred family destination for shopping. The Car Boot Sale is the perfect place to sell surplus possessions all at once from toys, books, furniture, clothes, to anything at all and get good deals for them. All our guests have to do is to book their spot, load up their car and drive to the pitch. Although it is a norm at festivals around the world, it has not trickled down to the GCC yet. Global Village is proud to bring this concept for the first time in the Middle East that allows guests to grab a bargain with so many choices in one convenient location. We continue our efforts towards bringing innovative concepts to the UAE that brings the society together and deliver unique experiences to our guests.”
Rob Newbould, the founder of The Car Boot Sale spent his childhood frequenting car boot sales in the UK, “My father was an avid bargain hunter and took us to many auctions, factory outlets and of course car boot sales throughout our childhood”. My father instilled in me the importance of thinking second hand first! Whether we were buying or selling. I’ve been in Dubai for the past 7 and half years during which time I had never come across a car boot sale. It seemed like the obvious type of market to have here taking into account Dubai’s transient population coupled with a dominant housing rental market. People of all nationalities relocate both locally and internationally on a regular basis. This process significantly lends itself to both the buying and selling of second-hand goods. The success of the existing second-hand markets and classified ads are testimony to this.”
Newbould continued: “The thing that sets a car boot sale aside from other types of markets is its convenience. A seller is able to drive their vehicle directly to their pitch and simply open their boot and commence their sale. No heavy lifting! Global Village was the obvious choice of venue presenting vast car parking space, excellent access and of course notoriety in the city.”
