OnePlus has officially teased an announcement of a mid-range smartphone. The company revealed the information through a newly created Instagram account with the handle @OnePlusLiteZThing and the wordings of “new beginnings”.
The page promises the reveal of a “new kind of phone” in the coming weeks. The original OnePlus Twitter account has also been posting images of the “New Beginnings” theme. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau mentioned in a forum post that the new smartphone will offer a premium experience of a flagship smartphone in an affordable package.
“Today, I’m very excited to announce that we are bringing the premium, flagship experience that you’ve come to expect from OnePlus to a new, more affordable smartphone product line. I know this is something many of you have been wanting for a long time”.
Pete Lau also mentions that the product team for the new smartphone is led by Paul Yu, who has taken care of the product hardware development for many of the company’s flagship devices for the past 5 years. Lau mentions that even if OnePlus has always delivered flagship products successfully, the company realizes that there are many who requires an everyday smartphone for a more affordable price.
Rumour has it that the new smartphone may be called the OnePlus 8 Lite or the OnePlus Z. The device is expected to feature 5G connectivity, powered by the Snapdragon 765G and may feature a triple or quad-camera setup. Take these rumours with a grain of salt. However, Pete Lau does mention to keep an eye on the latest updates of the device on the @OnePlusLiteZThing Instagram page. While the smartphone is set to be aimed at Europe and Indian markets, we will keep you posted when the device hits the UAE.
