Sony Middle East & Africa held a series of initiatives to raise awareness about environmental sustainability on 22 April as part of Earth Day. It earmarked 25 spots for tree planting, and staff was encouraged to bring their own saplings or choose from those provided.
Furthermore, 22 April was also observed as plastic-free day with plans to reduce the use of plastic at the office eventually. Lights were also switched off earlier than usual to conserve energy.
Jobin Joejoe, Deputy Managing Director, Sony MEA, said: “We are very happy to announce that our initiatives to mark Earth Day were a huge success. Staff were enthusiastic to join in a number of activities – which shows their commitment to environmental causes.
It also reinforces Sony’s global obligations to minimize our carbon footprint across our markets. We are already involved in programs around the world to achieve a zero environmental footprint throughout the lifecycle of our products, and our initiatives in the UAE this year on Earth Day are part of this ongoing commitment.”
