Review: Poly Voyager 5200 UC Bluetooth Headset

With most of us now involved in online meetings with clients, it’s important that we use a headset that is fine-tuned for busy environments. The Poly Voyager 5200 UC is designed to be the perfect headset for your online meetings, whether you are in the meeting room, anywhere outdoors like a parking lot, or from your home. The headset features a minimalistic, ergonomic design and weighs hardly 20g. The device comes in two different variants: The Office model and the UC model. Our review unit is the UC model.

The UC model comes with a pocketable charger case that uses the old MicroUSB connection. The charger also has LED indicators for the charging and battery status, and the outer area of the charger comes with a rugged cover. The charging pins are located on the side of the headset, along with a dedicated power switch. The headset also includes silver volume buttons on the bottom side. Don’t be surprised with the Plantronics branding as it was acquired by Poly long ago.

The overall headset comes in a black finish, along with red accents on the earbud and mic portion. The mic features an omnidirectional 4-mic array design that helps to isolate your voice, wherever you are. The position of the mic can be easily adjusted too. The mic is also P2i coated for protection from moisture.

The headset also comes with three different sizes of earbuds so you can choose the one that fits your ears best. Wearing the headset is comfortable and sits securely without the risk of falling off. Poly also includes a wireless Bluetooth transmitter for seamless connections between your PC/laptop and the headset.

The headset uses Bluetooth 5.0 with BLE that offers an effective range of up to 30m of distance for the UC models. The office variants have a longer roaming range of up to 75m. The speaker of the Voyager 5200 UC features a 13.6mm audio driver that is capable of covering audio frequencies between 100Hz and 6.8kHz for communication purposes. However, while watching media or hearing music, the headset has an effective frequency range between 100Hz and 20kHz.

Poly mentions that speaker sensitivity is optimized for telecommunications and watching media files. The mic uses four adaptive microphones and six layers of WindSmart technology that offers wind and noise-cancellation, so your voice is only heard, regardless of where you are. The device is also capable of cancelling out echoes during the call and comes with SoundGuard technology that ensures the level of sound does not cross the 118 dBA limit to protect your hearing.

As for the battery life, the Voyager 5200 UC houses a 122 mAh battery that offers up to 7 hours of talk time and 9 hours of standby time. The headset only takes about 1.5 hours of time. The device is also compatible with UC applications and softphones from Avaya, Cisco, and Microsoft, and the headset is optimized to work with Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
