With most smartphones, tablets, and laptops now using high-speed USB-C power connections, it’s a good idea to invest in a single charger that features both fast-charge capability and multiple ports. This is especially useful for those who also travel a lot. We got a chance to try the new 120W Anker 737 GaNPrime multi-port charger, and here are our thoughts about the new device.
The Anker 737 GaNPrime charger features an innovative interlocking structure that helps to keep the device firm and rigid. When compared to normal 96W/140W laptop chargers, Anker claims that the 737 GaNPrime is about 39% smaller. However, when compared to normal smartphone chargers, it’s definitely thicker in size. The dimensions are 43mm × 32mm × 80 mm and the device weighs about 187g. The outer chassis of the charger features a matte black finish and there is the Anker and GaNPrime reflective logos on the left side of the device.
The charger sample we got for review is based on the 3-Pin UK Pug adapter design, the same that is used in the UAE. However, users traveling to another destination will need to carry a universal converter. The charger is capable of a maximum of 120W output and the input voltage is rated between 100V – 240V.
The output ports are located on the top and this includes two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. Anker mentions that you will be able to get a maximum output of 100W from either of the single USB-C ports. However, the USB-A port only can only support a maximum of 22.5W.
In a two-port charging configuration, using the top USB-C port and either the middle USB-C port or the USB-A port combined gives a max output of 120W. However, the strange part is that using only the middle USB-C port and the USB-A port combined only brings maximum support for 24W. And when using all three ports, the maximum output is once again 120W. While the main chassis comes with a matte black finish, the port island on the top features a matte grey finish. Anker has also included several technologies that help in the safety and power distribution of the device.
It’s called the PowerIQ™ 4.0, where in real-time situations, the system detects the power requirements of the connected devices. Then comes the Dynamic Power Distribution which ensures that the charging power is distributed evenly and efficiently for connected devices. Anker also added a bonus proprietary feature called ActiveSheild 2.0, where the device monitors the temperature up to 3,000,000 times for each and every day of use. The company also mentions that its GaN technology and its GaNPrime chargers help to save power as compared to normal chargers for a greener environment.
If you happen to own multiple USB-C powered devices and don’t plan to carry around all their respective chargers, then the new Anker 737 GaNPrime multi-port charger is a good charger to consider, both for your trips and home or office use. The charger features a premium-looking interlock chassis, along with several safety and power distribution capabilities. The device comes with two USB-C ports and one USB-A port. Users will be able to enjoy 120W maximum output when using multiple ports and the USB-C port alone can handle 100W charging. The charger is also considerably smaller in size as compared to laptop chargers and weighs only 187g.
