The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced today the launch of its inaugural mobile application during GITEX Technology Week, which is being held at Dubai World Trade Center from 12th to 16th October. The UAE TRA App was designed to simplify multiple communication processes by providing users with assistance at their fingertips.
The mobile application was developed to offer solutions to several areas of user concern. With seven segments being covered, services include device verification, report SMS marketing, signal coverage and much more.
H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, Director General of TRA said, “We are pleased to announce TRA’s first ever mobile application in the region’s most anticipated ICT event. The UAE TRA App will be available for download in approved smart phones and will enable our continued efforts to improve services within the telecommunications sector. GITEX is certainly the most suited platform to release the latest TRA technological advances.”
The Mobile Verification service verifies the originality of the device used. This is done by automatically capturing or manually inputting the device’s IMEI. A message will be generated and sent to the service provider to confirm device authenticity. Approved Devices service is a platform that acts as a search engine listing all TRA approved devices. The information is provided directly from TRA’s Type Approval database.
Network Coverage notifies the service providers of zones with poor mobile signals. The service uses GPS to detect the user’s location and detailed message will be sent to the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and it will be stored in the TRA database. Report Marketing SMS fetches and reports unwanted marketing messages. The service instructs service providers to take appropriate action regarding the reported sender ID. Help Salem enables users to report unwanted websites based on the content. Once the user request is sent, it will be reviewed and procedures will be implemented by TRA.
Renew Authorization is primarily used to renew the access of preexisting users to Frequency Spectrum Authorization for maritime vessels and aerospace in the UAE. The charges and conditions will be applied for renewal. Domain Search contains .ae domain and امارات) .) domain databases, listing down the domain names to enable users to check for availability of their desired name. If available, existing lists of authorized registrars will appear for reserving the particular domain name. If not available, the owners’ information will be displayed.

TRA is expecting a lot of interest in the mobile application which is available and free to download for Android devices and will soon be developed with compatibility for iPhone devices.
