‘Qatar e-Nature’ App won the top honour in the regional level competition for the Best M-Government Service Award, which recognises excellence in government service.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, honoured the winners at the closing ceremony of the third Government Summit 2015 held under the theme, ‘Shaping Future Governments.’ ‘Qatar e-Nature’ won the award in the environment category, with DEWA`s smart phone app, and ‘MyENV’ from Singapore winning in the UAE- and international levels, respectively. The ‘Qatar e-Nature’ app is a first-of-its -kind smartphone application that highlights the rich diversity of the country’s environment, including plants, birds and insects.
The Best M-Government Service Award 2015 received over 411 submissions, with 76 entries qualifying for the final phase. Over 181 entries were from UAE universities and government entities, of which 96 were entries by students representing 20 universities, highlighting their strong interest in the awards nation-wide.
Of the 80 entries from the Arab world, excluding the UAE, Qatar accounted for 12 submissions. Saudi Arabia entered 30 submissions followed by Oman with 14, Bahrain with 11 and Kuwait with six. Two entries each were received from Jordan, Lebanon and Morocco and one entry from Sudan. Of the 150 international entries, 30% were from European Union countries, and 22 percent from the United States, while the rest were from South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Russia and other countries.
