Review: Tag Heuer Connected

A smartwatch in no longer an emerging technological advancement. In today’s time, it has joined the league of established tech devices. The fact is that a premium Swiss watch designer like Tag Heuer has stepped into the smartphone market. The Tag Heuer Connected has finally made it to the market, and is probably the best looking smartwatch in the market.

Functionality is not over the top, but the Tag Heuer Connected can do almost everything other smartwatches can do. Powered with Google’s Android Wear OS, the device also features support for Apple devices. The watch doesn’t come cheap at all. In fact, it is among the most expensive smartwatches in the market. However, the price cannot be considered justified.

If there is one thing you can expect from Tag Heuer watches, it is build quality. The Tag Heuer Connected is manufactured from grade-2 Titanium. This fact is more than enough to ensure you of the durability of this device. Also, the watch weighs merely 81 grams. It is fair to say that the Tag Heuer Connected is both; durable as well as light-weight.

Being 46mm in diameter and 12.8mm in thickness, the watch is big. Muscular hands are well suited for the device, whereas slender arms will look weird wearing the Tag Heuer Connected. At this price, a rubber strap feels pointless and disappointing. It sure gives the watch a sporty look, but after paying so much money, one expects something a bit more premium. A leather or metal strap was expected.

However, the rubber strap comes in seven different colour choices. Another notable design element is that the device is water resistant. Don’t mistake it for being entirely waterproof as it is rated IP67.

Tag Heuer Connected sports Intel’s latest Atom processor designed specifically for smartwatches. The inclusion of the Intel Atom that clocks at 1.6 GHz gives the device an edge over its competitors that usually come with the 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor. Moreover, the device features 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage and Bluetooth 4.1 BLE.

The 410 mAh battery makes the Tag Heuer Connected superior to its competitors in terms of battery life. On paper, the battery is said to last for about 25 hours. The biggest let down is the smartwatch’s resolution. The 360 x 360 1.5-inch screen delivers a pixel density of 240 ppi. This is not up to the mark, and is worse than all other competitors. However, the touch screen doesn’t look bad at all.

The Tag Heuer Connected features the latest version of Google’s smartwatch OS. You can stay connected with your smartphones and receive notifications. Also, some new features like emoji messaging, better navigation and improved iPhone compatibility make it to the Tag Heuer Connected’s feature list. Also, the watch faces provided by Tag Heuer are most likely the best looking ones for smartwatches. Sadly, a heart rate monitor or fitness tracker is not available.

It is true that the Tag Heuer Connected is an impressive smartwatch. The device features an elegant design and being light weight also adds to the pros. However, the hefty price will not get you something extra-terrestrial. At the core, the Tag Heuer Connected is like any other smartwatches. It just looks really good!
