ASUS has officially unveiled its latest generation of smartphones called the Zenfone and the Zenfone 7 Pro, featuring a new triple-lens flip camera and a fast vivid display. The new smartphones pack the same processor as its ROG Phone 3 series but there are some differences with respect to specifications.

The two new Zenfone smartphones share almost the same specifications, except for the chipset and RAM. The Zenfone 7 Pro is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor and the Zenfone 7 packs the non-pro variant of the chip. Both the chipsets bring in support for 5G capabilities. Both the Zenfone 7 Pro and Zenfone 7 features a total of 8GB LPDDR5 RAM. However, the standard Zenfone 7 also comes with a 6GB LPDDR5 RAM model. As for the internal storage, both the variants feature a fast UFS 3.1 memory.ASUS Zenfone 7

The Pro version comes with 256GB internal memory and the standard one with 128GB memory capacity. Both the smartphones also have its dedicated MicroSD card slot with support up to 2TB cards. While the chipset and other internals differ, there are a lot of similarities with respect to design, camera, and more. The Zenfone 7 and its Pro version weighs only 230g and is only 9.6mm thick. The Zenfone 7 series features a large 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080.

While the Snapdragon 865 chipset is also used in the ROG Phone 3 series smartphones, the Zenfone 7 also can be seen as a gaming smartphone. Not that its at the same caliber, but the AMOLED display on both the Zenfone 7 and its Pro variant features a refresh rate of 90Hz and with 1ms response time. That’s still quite fast for a refresh rate as compared to the standard 60Hz panels. The screen also has 700 nits of brightness so users will be able to view in daylight. The screen also features Corning Glass 6 protection to resist from scratches and accidental drops.

The star feature of the new smartphones is how the cameras of the Zenfone 7 are arranged. And just as the previous iterations, the Zenfone 7/Pro comes with a flip camera that can be used as the main camera or as a front camera. The new flip camera module now holds three different camera lenses, one of which is a wide-angle shooter, one for ultrawide and one for telephoto photography. The wide camera module features a 64MP Sony IMX686 image sensor with a sensor size of 1/1.73. That’s way larger than the standard mobile image sensors used. This allows the camera to capture more light and details for a better quality image.

The wide-angle shooter has an aperture of F1.8. Using the wide-angle shooter for both a front camera and as the main shooter, lets you shoot at Auto, Portrait, Panorama, Night, and Pro camera modes with RAW file support. The second ultra-wide angle shooter packs the 12MP Sony IMX363 image sensor with 1/2.55 as its sensor size and with an aperture of F2.2. The ultra-wide sensor also supports macro shots up to 4cm.

The telephoto lens packs an 8MP image sensor with 3x optical zoom, 12x total zoom range, and features 4-axis optical image stabilization. The Zenfone 7 series can record 8K UHD videos at 30fps from the main 64MP shooter, and 4K UHD videos at 30fps or 60fps from the secondary camera. The smartphone has Motion Tracking 2.0 capabilities where the camera can continuously track a moving subject while recording 4K videos at 60fps. There is also the 3-axis electronic stabilization and slow-motion video recording capabilities at 4K 120fps, 1080p at 240fps, and 720p at 480fps.

Wireless features of the smartphone include WiFi 6 support, Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity with Qualcomm aptX, and NFC support. Both the dual Nano-SIM slots do support 5G network speeds. The Zenfone 7 and its Pro model has a fingerprint scanner and the volume rockers mounted on the right side, along with a mic on the top. There is a second mic located at the bottom of the smartphone, along with a USB Type-C port and speakers. Both the Zenfone 7 devices run on Android 10 OS with the ASUS Zen UI 7 skin. The smartphones also hold a large 5000 mAh battery under its hood with support for Quick Charge 4.0 and PD charging.

The new ASUS Zenfone 7 and the Zenfone 7 Pro will come in Pastel White and Aurora Black colors. The Zenfone 7 is said to be priced at $749 (Approx. 2751 AED) and the Zenfone 7 Pro for $953 (Approx. 3500 AED).
