Microsoft officially announces the smaller and budget-focused Surface Laptop Go

Microsoft Surface Laptop Go

Microsoft has officially unveiled its latest addition called the Surface Laptop Go that is designed with budget in mind and as a smaller version of the already existing premium Surface Laptops. The new Surface Laptop Go is seen as a low-cost Surface product and is only more expensive than the Surface Go 2.

With work from home and online education for students already in full swing, the Surface Laptop Go can be a good alternative for those looking for a cheaper laptop and also a good alternative for Chromebooks. The new laptop looks just like the original Surface Laptop. However, the new laptop features a smaller 12.4-inch PixelSense display. On the contrary, Surface Laptop 3 holds a larger 13.5-inch display. Microsoft says that the Surface Laptop Go is their lightest Surface Laptop yet, weighing just 1.1kg. The Surface Laptop Go is made of aluminum on its top side, and its base is made of polycarbonate composite resin with glass fiber, along with 30% of post-consumer recycled content.

You get the same 3:2 aspect ratio that is perfect for the optimal reading experience and the screen resolution is 1536 x 1024, along with a pixel density of 148 PPI. It is a lower screen resolution for sure than the usual Surface Laptops, but that is the point of the device as it is launched as a budget alternative.

The device features similar connectivity options as compared to Surface Laptops, which includes a single USB Type-C port, one USB Type-A port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a Surface Connect port. The laptop comes with a 720p HD selfie camera for video calls and features an aperture of F2.0. The laptop is powered by the 10th generation Intel i5-1035G1 processor, although we think Microsoft may not have used the latest 11th generation to keep the costs down.

The Surface Laptop Go comes in either 4GB or 8GB LPDDR4X RAM configurations. Storage options are either a slow 64GB eMMC drive or an SSD with 128GB or 256GB capacity. For anyone thinking to get a Surface Laptop Go, we would recommend getting the SSD model. Microsoft has also preinstalled the laptop with the Windows 10 Home in S mode. It’s basically a limited version of Windows 10 that lets you only install from the Windows Store and browse with Microsoft Edge. But if you want to unlock the full potential, you will obviously need to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

The Surface Laptop Go will come in Ice Blue, Sandstone, and Platinum colors. Prices start at $549 (Approx. 2100 AED).
