realme 7 is out in the UAE. I got to try out the Mist White model of this flagship smartphone. Let’s find out if Real me 7 has ‘Dare-ed to Leap’.
The package consists of the smartphone, 30 W Dart Charger, USB Type – C cable, transparent back case, Sim card tool and an Info booklet with warranty card.
Weighing approx. 196.5 g, this installment does not look much different from its predecessor, the realme 6. The realme 7 is inspired by the mirror space in nature and it presents a brilliant mirror design. The front screen, measuring, 16.5 cm (6.5”) comes with an In-display selfie camera and is made of corning gorilla glass. The volume buttons and the 3-card slot + 1 microSD (up to 256 GB) slot sim tray are on the left side. The power button with an inbuilt Instant side fingerprint scanner is on the right side of the device. This smartphone runs on realme UI based on Android 10.
The finger print sensor and the face recognition feature work very quick and effortless every single time I tired to unlock the phone.
realme 7 is the first mobile to premier the Helio G95 gaming processor. The combination of the Helio G95 gaming processor along with the 90Hz ultra-smooth display of 16.5 cm (6.5”) FHD+ Full screen, offers a seamless gaming experience to the gamers. Heavy graphics laden games such as the call of duty, PUBG runs as smooth as butter. The switching between apps seamless. Not once did the device freeze. To further the experience of the gamers, the massive 5000 mAh battery also ensures that the battles rage on for nearly 7-8 hours non-stop.
The audio performance from the loudspeaker at the bottom is pretty ordinary (especially for the gamers). The phone supports 3.5mm headphone jack. While trying to connect my Bluetooth earphones I did experience some connectivity issues.
realme 7 comes with a rear quad cam, which consists of a 64 MP primary camera (first of the realme phones to go for Sony IMX 682 sensor with 1/1.73” sensor size), an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, B&W portrait lens and a macro lens with 4 cm focal diameter, f/2.4.
The rear camera works great in the normal mode during the daytime. The pictures are of good clarity and the images by default are popped up (high saturation). The night mode is a bit let down. One would need a pair of steady hands to get a crisp and clear image in the low light scenario. And in case of bright light in the background, the picture comes out with a sort of bleachy effect.
The B&W portraits look wonderful and the other filters that come along also work great and provide nice sheen and touch to the pictures. The 8 MP ultra-wide lens does cover a wider area and at the same time remains uncompromising in its quality while taken in the daylight. The starry mode was a total let down since I did not have the right apparatus to shoot.
The other modes such as the time-lapse, AI scene recognition, AI beauty and the chroma boost work appropriately and produce good quality images under normal daylight.
The In-display selfie camera uses a Sony 16 MP wide-angle camera which takes amazing selfies under normal light scenarios, but it falls a tad short in low light situations or when there are bright lights in the background. The phone supports 4K / 30 fps video recording and the quality is on par with many high-end mobiles that are currently available in the market.
The 5000 mAh battery offers robust performance. The full battery charge lasts for nearly 2 days under normal usage, and if you are a gamer, the battery will stay with you for almost 7-8 hrs on a single full charge. The 30W Dart charge is superfast, and it fires the phone up to 70% at the end of 33 minutes.
In synopsis, realme 7 does indeed has the right elements to assuage the needs of the gamers with its updated Helio G95 processor inside coupled with its 90Hz display and a 5000 mAh battery. The flip side being, a comparatively heavy phone. This bulkiness does result in few troubles while holding the phone with a single hand while taking selfies. The phone somehow did not fit into my palm with ease.
The smartphone lets you take amazing photos in normal, well-lit lighting conditions. The images are always popped up, they appear very bright (by default). I thought it would have been good if the images appear as is and the pop up is provided as an option rather than being forced down as a default option.
The other flip side with the camera being the image quality in the night mode / low light scenarios. There is an urgent need to improve the stabilization of the images. And whenever there is a bright light source in the background (both rear and the front cameras) the image quality is forgettable.
If these camera performance shortcomings are addressed in the near future with appropriate software updates, realme 7 would be an exciting phone to possess considering its features, performance and pricing.
The phone comes in 8 GB + 128 GB combination, which is the largest available for realme 7 and is available in two colour variants: Mist White for AED 899.00* and Mist Blue for AED 898.95*.
