Samsung to release a new 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 SSD with a heat sink for the PlayStation 5

While Sony had recently released a firmware update that enables the M.2 expansion slot on the PlayStation 5, PCIe 4.0 SSDs have been in demand and many PS5 owners have already opted for the Samsung 980 Pro SSD. But since the drive does not come with its own heatsinks like the ones from WD, Seagate, and Sabrent, users had resorted to third-party heatsinks to install on their PS5.

And while some users are okay with installing a heatsink manually, many aren’t so comfortable with doing the process and finds it easier if the SSD already came with a heatsink block. Samsung has now announced that they will be releasing a new edition of the 980 Pro SSD with a heatsink of its own. The drive is primarily targeted towards PS5 owners that will fit the M.2 slot, and of course, can be used for PCs too.

We like the design of the new heatsink that comes with the 980 Pro SSD. It’s an all-black metal design with some gaps on the sides to easily dissipate the heat. And it isn’t very thick like some of the drives on the market.

The SSD drive is still the same as the previous model with read speeds hitting 7000MB/s and write speeds up to 5100MB/s. It isn’t the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD on the market but it’s one of the best options to choose for both PS5 owners and PC enthusiasts. And the drive easily exceeds Sony’s 5500MB/s read speed requirements.

The new 980 Pro SSD is set to be released later this month but we aren’t sure when it will hit the UAE stores. Samsung announced the heatsink model only for the 1TB and 2TB variants. The 1TB model with the heatsink will cost $249.99 (Approx 950 AE) and the 2TB model for $449.99 (Approx. 1700 AED).
