Google unveils the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones, features new design, Tensor cores, powerful cameras and more

Google has officially announced its latest generation of flagship smartphones with the launch of the highly anticipated Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro.  The new smartphones come with a completely new design, Google’s homegrown chipset, upgraded cameras, new software enhancements, and more.

The Tensor chip, Google’s custom octa-core SoC that powers the new Pixel smartphones are based on the 5nm fabrication process. The processor feature two powerful Cortex X1 cores, along with two mid-level performing cores and four power-efficient cores. Google also included a new Titan M2 security chip that helps to protect your personal photos, texts, and other sensitive data from any online attacks.

The Pixel 6 features 8GB RAM and the Pro model with 12GB RAM onboard. Storage options for both models include 128GB and 256GB variants, and the Pro model is also available in 512GB option. The new smartphones also come preloaded with Android 12 OS, which is now called Material You. Google mentions that the new Android version is secure and also adapts to your style.

Google also introduced a new design language for both the Pixel 6 base and Pro models that differs as compared to previous-generation devices. The Pixel 6 features a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with 1080p resolution and 90Hz refresh rate capability. The Pixel 6 Pro comes with a bigger 6.71-inch AMOLED display that also has a higher screen resolution at 1440p and the refresh rate also hits 120Hz.

Both the smartphone’s display also features the latest Gorilla Glass Victus protection and also comes with fingerprint scanners embedded on the display. Google mentions that the Pro’s display design is curvier and is called the 3D glass.

One of the most noticeable changes is none other than the rear camera island on both devices. The Pixel 6 features 2 rear-mounted cameras and the Pro model with three shooters. The primary camera is a 50MP shooter with a large 1/1.3 sensor size that can capture up to 150% more light, along with a bright 1/1.9 as its aperture. The second camera is a 12MP ultra-wide shooter with f2.2 as its aperture. The third camera is a 48 telephoto snapper that’s present only on the Pro model, featuring 4x optical zoom, and is based on a new folded optics design. Both the smartphones are capable of 4K video recording at 60fps.

The Pixel 6 also has an 8MP selfie camera on the front and the Pixel 6 Pro with an ultrawide 11.1 MP selfie snapper mounted on the front side. Google has also collaborated with Snapchat to offer some app-specific features. Users will be able to use the Quick Tap to Snap that allows users to quickly access and upload images with the ultrawide camera. Google also added the Magic Eraser that helps to get rid of all those photo distractions that happen when clicking a moment. Users can simply remove persons or objects that are not required on a photo with the new Magic Eraser tool. The Motion Mode now comes with Action Pan that lets users capture fast-paced action with beautiful blur in the background.

Google also included new software features such as Live Translate that can now help to message people in different languages, including English, French, German, Italian, and Japanese. While Live Translate detects the language from your apps such as WhatsApp or Snapchat, the personal data and chats will not be leaked out, thanks to the Private Compute Core.

The Pixel 6 holds a 4614 mAh battery under its hood and the Pixel 6 Pro with a larger 5003 mAh battery. Both the devices support fast charge capability with cable and wireless modes. The Pixel 6 is 8.9mm thick and weighs 207g, while the Pixel 6 Pro is 8.9mm thick as well and weighs 210g.

There is no word yet on the official availability of the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro smartphones in the UAE and we hope the new devices become available via third-party sellers in the region.
