Just a few weeks after rumors had circulated that OnwardMobility had lost the rights to the BlackBerry brand, the company has now released an official statement that they are shutting down their business and will no longer go ahead with the new BlackBerry 5G smartphone as reported earlier.
The company formally extends its appreciation to the professionals and partners who were involved in the project, and also to the loyal fan base for supporting the idea. While some hoped that the company will at the least, proceed to release the smartphone without the BlackBerry branding and technologies, OnwardMobility was very clear about the fact that there will “no longer be proceeding with the development of an ultra-secure smartphone with a physical keyboard.”
What’s interesting is that OnwardMobility did not unveil what had really happened throughout the year 2021, while many users were eagerly waiting to replace their aging BlackBerry devices. The company also mentions that its decision to scrap the plans to continue developing a secure smartphone with a physical keyboard was not done lightly or in haste. And this is referred to the loss of its rights to use the BlackBerry branding, something that OnwardMobility did not mention in its statement.
