HP’s Pavilion range of laptops has been a popular choice among consumers for a long time now and the latest Pavilion Plus 14 is one of the best made by the company. We take a look at the new HP Pavilion Plus 14 and here are our thoughts about it.
Design
The HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14t-eh000), as the name implies, comes with a 14-inch IPS display and with an anti-glare coating that helps to keep both the viewing angles great and with very minimum reflections. The display also outputs a screen resolution of 2240 x 1400, making the images and text appear crisp and clear to the user.
The screen-to-body ratio is impressive and is at 87.21%. The display also offers low blue light mode and the maximum brightness is just 300 nits. For those looking for higher options, HP also offers an OLED version with 2880 x 1800 as the screen resolution. There is also a 5MP HP True Vision webcam on the top bezel that offers temporal noise reduction, along with integrated dual-array digital microphones.
Coming to its connectivity options, you can see that the majority of the ports are on the right side of the laptop. There are two USB Type-C ports that are capable of a 10Gbps signaling rate with support for USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort 1.4 connectivity, and HP Sleep and Charge capability.
Users will also be able to take advantage of the HDMI 2.1 port to view 4K visuals at higher refresh rates on a compatible display, along with a USB Type-A port with a 5Gbps signaling rate on the right side. The left side also receives another USB Type-A port with a 5Gbps signaling rate, along with a headphone jack and a microSD card reader.
The laptop also holds a full-size backlit keyboard that is pleasant to type on and the HP Imagepad trackpad has enough space for mouse movements. There is also a fingerprint reader that is located on the right palm-rest area. The lightweight design of the laptop helps to easily carry it around while traveling and the device weighs around 1.4 kg.
The main air vents are seen on the bottom panel of the laptop and the audio speakers are located on either side. The speakers are optimized by B&O and HP Audio Boost technologies. There is the Pavilion logo on the rear side and the outer front lid features the HP branding in the middle.
HP also mentions ocean-bound plastic in the bezel area and speaker enclosures, and recycled metal is used in the cover area, and keyboard area. And the keycaps feature post-consumer recycled plastic.
Performance
The Pavilion Plus 14 that we got for review features the Intel i5-1240P processor onboard, along with 8GB DDR4 RAM and a 512GB SK Hynix BC711 PCIe 3.0 SSD with Windows 11 Home OS installed. With 8GB RAM may be enough for handling normal tasks, we think having a minimum of 16GB DDR4 memory is a better option. That said, the performance of the system is quite snappy, thanks to the fast SSD and the 12th-generation Intel processor.
The laptop also sports the Realtek WiFi 5-based RTL8822CE 802.11ac PCIe adapter and Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless connectivity options. It’s good to see manufacturers now are switching to the latest WiFi standards for high-speed internet connections. We ran some benchmarks such as PC Mark 10, 3DMark FireStrike/TimeSpy, CineBench R23, Geekbench 5, and CrystalDiskMark to evaluate the performance. See the results below.
The device also houses a 3-cell, 51 Wh Li-ion polymer battery with support for fast charge capability that achieves 50% charge in just half an hour. The laptop also comes with a 90W USB Type-C power adapter. We ran the PC Mark 10 Office battery test and the system lasted for 7 hours and 11 minutes.
Verdict
The HP Pavilion series of laptops has been a favorite choice among families and casual for the past decade, and the new HP Pavilion Plus 14 (14t-eh000) is one of the best offered by the brand. The laptop is lightweight and easy to carry around. The main 14-inch IPS display produces vibrant colors and great viewing angles, along with an anti-glare coating to reduce distracting reflections. The device features a keyboard that is good to type and a large touchpad for easy navigation and web browsing.
The laptop offers several connectivity options such as USB-C, USB-A, HDMI 2.1, and also a MicroSD card reader. The combination of the Intel i5-1240P chip, 8GB DDR4, and a 500GB PCIe 3.0 SSD, Windows 11, and apps runs smoothly. Although, more RAM is always an added bonus. The battery life of the laptop with mixed usage should be able to last for almost a day and the fast charge capability helps to achieve 50% battery in just 30 minutes of time.
