Review: HONOR 400 Mid-Range Smartphone

User Rating: 8.7

HONOR recently unveiled its latest HONOR 400 series mid-range premium smartphones that include the HONOR 400 and the HONOR 400 Pro devices. We got a chance to try out the HONOR 400, and here are our thoughts about the device.

Design

While many companies offer flagship devices, HONOR focuses on improving the mid-range premium category with the launch of its HONOR 400 series devices. The device features a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 5000 nits of peak brightness. The screen resolution is 1264 x 2736 pixels, which is plenty to showcase high-quality videos and content. The display incorporates the bullet-hole style selfie camera on the front side.

The smartphone comes with a sleek and vibrant flat frame that is 7.3 mm thick, and the device weighs about 184 g. HONOR mentions that the HONOR 400 is IP66 certified for dust and water resistance. Users will be able to choose between three different colors, which include Desert Gold, Meteor Silver, and Midnight Black. As you can see, we received the stunning Desert Gold color for review. The volume rocker and the power button are located on the right side of the device, along with a mic and speaker grill on the upper frame and the USB-C port on the bottom frame. There is another speaker grill, mic, and a SIM-slot on the bottom frame too.

On the rear side, there is the HONOR branding engraved vertically at the south side, along with a stylish-looking camera island at the north. The camera island features two large camera lenses positioned vertically one after the other, along with the inclusion of a large flash module.

The packaging of the HONOR 400 includes the phone, an HONOR 100W SuperCharge, a Type-C cable, a TPU protective cover, a quick start guide, an eject tool, a warranty card, and a TP protective film that is already attached to the device’s screen out of the box.

Performance

The HONOR 400 series stands as a premium lineup of mid-range devices, and the base model comes with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, an octa-core processor with Adreno 720 as its integrated GPU. The device runs on the Android 15 OS, baked with HONOR’s MagicOS 9.0 interface. The device is available in three different memory configurations, which include 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, and the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage model. And our review sample is the highest-tier storage model.

The overall user performance of the device is impressive. Opening applications and switching between them is snappy, and we did not notice any lags. However, gaming could take a toll for graphics-intensive mobile game titles. We ran some benchmarks that include Geekbench 6 CPU and GPU, Antutu, and 3DMark tests. Please take a look at the scores below.

Other features of the device include Bluetooth 5.4, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, 2×2 MIMO, OTG support, and more. The smartphone is capable of handling dual SIM functionality with 5G NR network support. The device houses a large 6000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is quite big for a slim device. While there is no wireless charging option, the device is capable of 5W reverse wired charging for other smartphones. We should also mention that there is an optical fingerprint scanner embedded under the main display.

Camera

We are also impressed with the camera setup of the HONOR 400. The main camera houses a massive 200MP 1/1.4-inch Ultra-clear AI camera with f/1.9 aperture lens. The second camera houses a 12MP ultra-wide angle camera with f/2.2 aperture lens. The front camera is no slouch either, featuring a 50MP selfie snapper with a f/2.0 aperture lens. Both the main camera and front camera are capable of recording videos up to 4K resolution. The front camera also has support for 2D face unlock for extra security.

We took the HONOR 400’s cameras for a spin and shot some samples for both day and night-time, including the specialized night mode. We shot the images with default focal lengths. Take a look at the samples below.
