Review: ASUS ZenScreen GO MB16AWP Portable Monitor

When it comes to productivity on the go, having an extra pair of screens while you work during travel or during a presentation can be really helpful. And ASUS is one of the few brands that offer high-quality portable monitors. We take a look at the new ASUS ZenScreen GO MB16AWP and here are our thoughts about the device.

Design

ASUS’s latest range of portable monitors comes in a stylish and lightweight chassis with a good display. The monitor and its stand together feature an 11.5mm thick body profile and weigh only 1.09kg. This allows users to carry the device easily on their laptop or messenger bags

The device comes with a 15.6-inch IPS display that features a non-glare coating to keep the reflections away, along with offering good viewing angles. While the display also has a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, the brightness is only 250cd/m2 , which is a bit low for a portable screen. The contrast ratio of the screen is only 1200:1, along with 16.7 million display colors, 5ms (GTG) response time, and 60Hz refresh rate.

The bezels at the bottom side of the monitor feature a hairline-like finish, along with the power button that is located on the right side and the 5-way directional button on the opposite end to access and navigate the OSD menu. There is the USB-C port for power connections on the bottom left side near the OSD directional button, along with another USB-C port, a mini HDMI port, and a headphone jack on the top left side.

The ZenScreen GO MB16AWP also comes with a foldable ergo kickstand that allows users to adjust different tilt angles according to their comfortable viewing experience. There is also a socket on the rear side if you want to mount the screen to a tripod. The display also comes with dual 1-watt speakers with smart amplifier technology.

The ASUS ZenScreen GO MB16AWP comes with a mini HDMI to HDMI adapter, the power charger, and cord, a quick start guide, a USB-C cable, a warranty card, a sleeve for the ZenScreen, and a tripod hole cover.

Features

While the maximum brightness could have been better, the IPS display does offer 100% coverage for sRGB color space. And to improve the blacks and whites, there is a feature called ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR) that offers a 100,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The display also comes with a pixel pitch of 0.179mm and the colors appear great.

There are other ASUS exclusive features included such as Trace Free Technology, SPLENDID Technology, GamePlus mode, Low Blue Light, QuickFit, and up to four modes of color temperature selection. The display also includes a G-sensor that enables autorotation when you place the monitor in portrait or landscape mode. This is a useful feature where users can choose to use the landscape mode to showcase presentations or spreadsheets, while the portrait mode suits to view websites, documents, or e-books.

Apart from the fact that you can use the USB-C port to connect to external devices, the monitor also offers to mirror your laptop screen wirelessly and this function is supported for iOS, Android, Chrome OS, and Windows devices. This feature does come in handy if you happen to carry the USB cables or when you want to mirror your smartphone screen contents to the display.

The ASUS ZenScreen GO MB16AWP also houses a built-in 7800 mAh battery that can offer up to 3.5 hours of usage when connected via a wired USB-C to HDMI port, or when your devices are connected wirelessly. With our usage, the monitor was able to last for about 2.5 to 3 hours of time, depending on the content you see, along with the brightness of the screen and the volume of the speakers.
