Review: SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDHC UHS-I Card (8GB)

RecommendedSanDisk’s new Extreme Pro microSDHC UHS-I card series is being touted to be the world’s fastest microSDHC mobile memory card. These cards, which are waterproof and temperature-proof up to a certain level, are currently available in 8GB and 16GB storage capacities.

The cards also are incredibly fast – they promise to provide up to 95 MB/s read speeds and 90 MB/s write speeds. Hence, these cards are ideal for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Apps load and update more quickly, mobile games perform more smoothly, and Full HD videos play back seamlessly.

The card also comes with a Class 10 video recording rating, which will provide the power to perform smoothly. To add to the impressive specifications list, this card was presented the 2013 CES Innovations award for Design and Engineering.

Since the card features write speeds of up to 90MB/s, the SanDisk Extreme Pro allows you to snap photos continuously. In addition, as mentioned earlier, the Class 10 rating and UHS Speed Class 1 of these memory cards also allow you to capture fast-action Full HD and 3D videos.

In addition, the cards are waterproof, shockproof and X-ray proof. The card also operates in temperatures ranging from -13 to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. SanDisk also packs in lifetime limited warranty with the card.

So how did it perform in real world tests? Well, it performed quite brilliantly! We used IOMeter to check the data transfer rates. Sequential read speeds measured 89.3MB/s, while the write activity measured 72.5MB/s. Though our results were slightly lower than what SanDisk quoted for this product, the numbers are certainly impressive when compared with that of similar products on the market.

SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDHC UHS-I Card (8GB) - 2

The SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDHC UHS-I is designed for enthusiasts taking on high performance tasks like HD video recording which requires a powerful and fast card. This is one of the main reasons why we used the card to test the Mio MyVue DDR. While the card might be slightly on the higher side when it comes to pricing, it does compensate the high price tag by adding value in the form of performance and durability. Hence, the SanDisk Extreme Pro microSDHC UHS-I (8GB) memory card gets the Recommended nod from Review Central.
