Acer has been known for its desktop PCs and laptops for years now. Though the company has also been churning out tablets and smartphones at regular intervals, it hadn’t quite made a noise around those products, until now.
The company recently sent us the Liquid Jade smartphone for review at Review Central Labs. The smartphone is sleek and surprisingly thin, and comes in a lightweight package at just 110 grams. It is really a mid-range device, running on Android KitKat 4.4.
Looking at the Liquid Jade, you will really be surprised at how thin the smartphone looks. As for the button placements, you will find the volume rocker on the right, while the power button is up top. There is also a 3.5mm audio jack at the top, while the USB port is at the bottom.
Since the Liquid Jade uses a completely sealed body, the SIM card tray on the edge of the phone, can also accommodate a microSD card for more memory. The Acer Liquid Jade also features a 5-inch 720p screen with IPS and Zero Air Gap technologies.
The contrast of the display was nice, colour reproduction was quite accurate, and viewing angles were generous, The brightness level of the display is also quite good – so you can use the Liquid Jade in bright sunlight, without being forced to squint through the glare.
In addition, Acer also packs in a 13-megapixel main camera at the back, integrated with an f/1.8 lens. The front facing camera module meanwhile offers a resolution of 2-megapixels.
Under the hood, the Acer Liquid Jade runs on a quad-core MT6582 CPU from MediaTek with 1GB RAM. In addition, the phone offers an internal storage capacity of 8GB, which can be futher expanded by an additional 32GB. It is worth noting that the Acer Liquid Jade is a smartphone that supports dual SIMs.
The camera of the Acer Liquid Jade performs quite well, under good lighting conditions. If the lighting is right, you will be able to capture sharp photos boasting realistic colours and plenty of detail.
Overall functionality of the Acer Liqid Jade is quite good, though some may be deterred by the expensive price tag for something which is clearly a mid-range offering. Having said that, kudos to Acer for working out a slim design for the Liquid Jade and that could really be the unique selling proposition for some.
For AED 999, the Acer Liquid Jade might sound a bit overpriced for some, especially since there are cheaper options available now on the market.
