Review: Infinix Zero

It’s a price war out there when it comes to Android-based phones today. New companies have started entering the Middle East market with low cost Android phones that pack in features to the brim.

One such smartphone is the Infinix Zero which comes at a price point of just AED 449. The phone was exclusively launched through Souq.com a couple of weeks ago and we received a sample review unit at Review Central recently.

Looks-wise, we were surprised to find out that it resembles the Xolo Hive which was launched during GITEX Shopper last year. The specs of both the phones are also quite similar. The only major difference would be the fact that the Infinix Zero features Corning Gorilla Glass at both the front screen and the backplate of the device. The Xolo Hive in comparison comes with Gorilla Glass only on the front display and also costs more than the Infinix Zero.

The Infinix Zero is an elegant Android smartphone nevertheless, and comes packed with several multimedia and connectivity features. The high tech all black device comes fitted with a huge 5-inch IPS panel capacitive touch display that offer a resolution of 1280 X 720p. This device comes installed with Android KitKat operating system, which offers enhanced sharing, syncing and visual features for overall ease of use.

A 13 megapixel camera with HDR, autofocus and LED flash is also cuilt in that lets you take good looking images and shoot 1080p videos. Connectiity options on the phone include WiFi and 3G. Inside, the Infinix Zero runs a 1.4GHz MTK Octa Core processor. It also packs in 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage space, which can be further expanded by inserting a microSD memory card.

The Infinix Zero is a dual SIM phone. The smartphone has no physical buttons below the screen – but there are three softkeys for Home, Menu and Back. The memory card slot is a tray on the right side of the phone just above the power button and volume controls. The SIM tray meanwhile is on the left.

As mentioned earlier, this device comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera. The pictures taken with the back camera are fairly good, even under low light conditions. The camera is equipped with a LED flash and other features include HDR, Motion Tracking, Geo-tagging and Auto Focus.

Call quality and reception level was quite good, too. Infinix Zero comes a non-removable Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1920mAh. With heavy use, we clocked a battery life of around 7 to 8 hours of surfing the internet, gaming and other activities.

Overall, the Infinix Zero is a good phone, especially for those who are looking for a good looking and sturdy dual SIM Android phone available at a very reasonable price.
