ASUS launches the new Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip flagship smartphones

While ASUS has been busy unveiling a lot of new gaming products, the company has also announced its latest smartphones called the Zenfone 8 and the Zenfone 8 Flip.

The Zenfone 8 is said to be the smallest Android smartphone with flagship specifications on the market, while the Zenfone 8 Flip, as the name suggests, retains the flip camera as seen on the previous models. When it comes to the Zenfone 8, the smartphone simply measures 148 x 68.5 x 8.9mm as its dimensions and weighs only 169g. This is joined with a large 5.9-inch AMOLED display with 1080p as its screen resolution and 20:9 aspect ratio.

The display also features Gorilla Glass Victus for protection and the smartphone itself is certified with IP68 dust and water resistance rating. The interesting part is that the Zenfone 8 is the first smartphone from ASUS to feature an IP rating. It makes sense since the previous models always had the flip camera which couldn’t be water-resistant. That said, the display also features a fast refresh rate of 120Hz and 240Hz touch sampling rate, along with HDR10+ certification and DCI-P3 color gamut with 112% coverage.  The display itself features 1100 nits of brightness and the screen also features an under-display fingerprint scanner.

Since the Zenfone 8 does not feature the flip camera, the rear side only comes with the standard camera island with dual cameras. The main shooter is a 64MP IMX686 camera with Dual Pixel AF, the same that is present on the Zenfone 7. The camera also features OIS and can record up to 8K videos at 24 fps. The camera is also capable of 4K video capture at 60fps. The camera also uses a triple-mic setup with OZO Audio Zoom and noise reduction techniques.

The secondary camera features a 12MP image sensor, which is the Sony IMX363, is meant for wide-angle photography. On the front, you get a 12MP IMX663 image sensor, which features Dual Pixel AF and 4K video capture at 60fps. ASUS has also packed the Zenfone 8 with dual linear speakers, powered by dual Cirrus Logic mono amps and Dirac HD Sound. The device comes with an Audio Wizard that lets users tweak the equalizers.

The Zenfone 8 features a large 4000 mAh battery with support for 30W HyperCharge via the USB Type-C port. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC and runs Android 11 OS with ZenUI 8 skin. The internal storage is either 128GB or 256GB and there will be models with 6GB, 8GB, or 16GB RAM.  The smartphone also has a shortcut button called the Smart Key that can be configured to perform three different operations. The device also has support for 5G connectivity, WIFI 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2. While the smartphone has support for dual-SIM connectivity, there is no MicroSD card slot.

On the other hand, the Zenfone 8 Flip, as the name suggests, features a trio of shooters on the flip module. The main camera is the same 64MP shooter as seen on the Zenfone 8, but it lacks OIS. The secondary camera is also the same 12MP shooter for wide-angle captures. The third camera comes with an 8MP OmniVision sensor for telephoto shots with 3x magnification and 12x digital zoom. The main camera is able to record up to 8K videos at 30fps, the secondary camera at 4K 60fps, and the third camera only at 1080p 30fps mode. The camera module is protected with Gorilla Glass 3.

The Zenfone 8 Flip is also powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset and features 8GB RAM with 128GB/256GB of internal storage. The smartphone comes with a triple-card slot with a dedicated MicroSD card slot. The smartphone comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with 1080p+ screen resolution and 20:9 as its aspect ratio, along with a 90Hz refresh rate and 200Hz touch sampling rate. The screen is protected with Gorilla Glass 6 and only has 700 nits of brightness. The display also comes with an under-display fingerprint scanner.

The new Zenfone 8 Flip comes with a larger 5000 mAh battery and support for 30W HyperCharge. The Flip does not come with a 3.5mm audio jack like the Zenfone 8. However, the device does come with NXP mono amps and the speakers are fine-tuned with Dirac Research.

There is no word on when the new Zenfone 8 and the Zenfone 8 Flip will be available in the UAE and we will update you once the information is out.
