Review: Razer Basilisk V2 Wired Gaming Mouse

There is no doubt that Razer is well known for its high-performance gaming peripherals and powerful gaming laptops. The company simply is one of the leading manufacturers of gaming products and we got to try out the new Razer Basilisk V2 Wired Gaming Mouse.

Design

With Razer already offering high-end gaming mouse products with gamer-centric designs, the all-new Basilisk V2 is no exception here. The new mouse features a dimension of 130mm in length, 60mm width at the grip, and is 42mm tall. Even with all the buttons onboard, the mouse alone is 92g in weight if you exclude the wires.

Razer always ensures that the mouse is comfortable to use for prolonged gaming sessions and you do not face any fatigue on your hands and fingers. The Basilisk V2 features a unique design where the hand and fingers fit perfectly. The left and right M buttons do feature a slight curvature so your index finger and the finger on the middle sit comfortably. The right-sided button is slightly longer than the left side so it easily accommodates your middle finger.

There is also the scroll button that has its own grip pattern. The scroll button has its own Chroma RGB LED lights on the left and right sides. There are two clickable portions located on the left and right sides of the scroll button. And down of the scroll button lies the cycle up and down profile buttons that are easily reachable by your index finger.

On the left side, you will find a grip pattern that is comfortable to lay your thumb to easily access the Razer Hypershift button and the Q/Z buttons. In total, the Razer Basilisk V2 has 11 programmable buttons. There is also the Razer logo on the backside that illuminates. So basically it’s the logo and the scroll button that has LED lighting. The LED colors can be customized from the Razer Synapse 3 application with up to 16.8 million color options. We also like the curved lines that distinguish between the backplate and the front portion.

Razer also included some features underneath the mouse, such as the small dial that is used to customize the scroll wheel to either have a smooth or tactile experience. This is indeed a good feature when gamers want different scroll wheel experiences on different occasions during their gaming sessions. You also will find the profile selector button and the optical sensor underneath the mouse.

The Razer Basilisk V2 also uses the Razer Speedflex Cable that offers lesser drag effects and is lighter than normal mouse cables so gamers will have a smooth and uninterrupted gaming experience. The Speedflex cable is 2.1m in length, which should be enough for most gaming setups. The green color and the Razer logo on the USB port is a nice touch for the overall design. Adding to the enhanced gaming performance is the use of pure and high-grade PTFE  materials on the mouse feet for slick mouse movements.

Specs and  Features

The Basilisk V2 comes with top-of-the-line features that compete with the best gaming mouses in the market. The sensitivity of the Focus+ optical sensor reaches a true value of 20,000 DPI with 99.6% resolution accuracy. This helps most gamers to initiate quick and accurate headshots during normal or multiplayer gaming.

The sensitivity can be adjusted between 800, 1800, 4000, 9000, or 20,000 DPI.  The mouse has a tracking speed capability of up to 650 inches per second (IPS) or 50 G acceleration. And with the Smart Tracking feature, users will also be able to customize the lift-off and landing distances between the mouse and different types of surfaces.

The Razer Optical Mouse Switch is unique in its own way and uses an infrared light beam that is used to register every click the gamer does. Thanks to the design, the optical sensor has an industry-leading response time rated at 0.2ms. Since the use of the infrared light beam eliminates the need for traditional physical contacts found on normal mouse switches, there will not be any debounced delays and also removes the chances of unintended clicks.

We got to play the mouse with several first-person shooter games, including the fast-paced DOOM: Eternal, while reviewing other gaming laptops and the gaming experience was fantastic. Along with the advantage of the 11 programmable buttons, the Basilisk V2 also allows gamers to save up to 5 different profiles on the onboard memory of the device (4+1 profiles). This way, you will be able to choose the profile that suits your gaming preferences, wherever you play.

By connecting the mouse for the first time, the Razer Razer Synapse 3 gets automatically installed on your system (unless you had disabled automatic updates on your Windows PC). The application allows you to customize the Chroma RGB lighting and other performance-centric features of the mouse.

Verdict

If you’re on the lookout for a high-performance gaming mouse from the best gaming brands, then try out the Razer Basilisk V2. The gaming mouse has almost a dozen of programmable buttons that will come in handy for better and personalized gaming experiences. The mouse is comfortable to use and you can also customize the scroll wheel to offer a smooth or tactile experience.

The Focus+ optical sensor offers industry-leading sensitivities and the infrared based optical switch delivers better performance than most other mouses. The onboard memory can also store up to 5 profiles and the mouse also has two Chroma RGB zones so you can customize the lighting effects to your liking.
