Xiaomi has officially introduced three new flagship smartphones that include Xiaomi 12S, the 12S Pro, and the 12S Ultra. The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the first in the world to feature a full-sized 1-inch image sensor for mobile without any cropping involved.
The new 1-inch image sensor used here is the Sony IMX989, developed in collaboration with Xiaomi and the lens used here is from Leica. The IMX989 offers a resolution of 50.3MP with a 23mm Leica lens. Xiaomi mentions that the sensor offers pixels at 3.2µm when on its 4-in-1 12.5MP binned mode.
The Leica lens system that covers the 1-inch main sensor is based on an 8P element design. The lens is capable of eliminating problems such as flares, chromatic aberration, and ghosting effects that can happen when taking shots. Furthermore, the lens features ink coating, cyclic olefin copolymer material, and a filter for infrared lighting with spin coating.
The smartphone also makes use of Leica software enhancements with its dual photographic shooting styles, which include the Lecia Authentic Look and the Leica Vibrant Look. The authentic mode helps to produce a natural result that focuses on light, shadow, and depth. On the other hand, the vibrant mode makes use of Xiaomi’s camera enhancements with Leica effects.
The large camera island on the rear side of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra also houses a 48MP Sony IMX586 1/2.0-inch sensor that is backed with a 13mm ultrawide lens with f/2.2 as its aperture. The third shooter also holds a 48MP sensor that is meant for telephoto shots with 120mm as its focal length and f/4.1 as its aperture.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra offers Dolby Vision HDR video recording, along with the fact that the 10-bit h.265 videos are recorded in HLG mode and Rec.2020 color space for both FHD and 4K video recording. Now when it comes to performance, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra features the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with a choice of either 8GB or 12GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage.
To keep up with the performance, the smartphone comes equipped with a new 3D liquid cooling system that makes use of a capillary network for pumping cooling liquid at the opposite side of the warm portion of the device. The device runs on MIUI 13 skin above the Android 12 OS. The Ultra model also comes with Harman Kardon branded speakers with support for Dolby Atmos.
The smartphone weighs about 225g and also features IP86 certification for dust and water resistance. While the smartphone comes in Classic Black and Verdant Green colors with a leather-like rear panel, we still have yet to know the official release date and pricing in the UAE.
