Review: Dynabook PORTEGE X30W-K Convertible Laptop

Dynabook’s Portege series business laptops offer good performance in a lightweight form factor. We take a look at the Dynabook PORTEGE X30W-K laptop and here are our thoughts about it.

Design

While the Portege series laptops are known for their lightweight design, the Dynabook PORTEGE X30W-K features a magnesium alloy build for extra durability that meets MIL-STD-810G standards. The device weighs about 979g and the physical dimensions are 306 x 210 x 17.9mm. The touchscreen display is a 13.3-inch Sharp IGZO Full HD IPS display with an anti-glare coating.

The viewing angles are great and in terms of color temperature, the whites appear to be warm by default. There is also an HD camera on the front side with dual microphones, along with a camera shutter slider for those who are concerned with privacy.

The PORTEGE X30W-K also has a world-facing camera as the secondary webcam and this 8MP sensor sits between the main display and the top portion of the working area. While the primary webcam has a privacy shutter, we found it odd that the world-facing camera does not feature the same capability. The laptop also has a frameless full-size backlit keyboard that is pleasant to type on and the Clickpad offers multi-gesture support. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the left side of the trackpad.

In terms of connectivity, there is a USB 3.2 Type-A port on the right side, along with a MicroSD card slot and a power button. On the left side, there are two USB 3.2 Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports with support for data transfer, power delivery, and display port connectivity, along with an HDMI 2.0 port with 4K support and a headphone jack.

As you can see, the PORTEGE X30W-K is a convertible laptop that can be set in laptop mode, tablet mode, screen at 180 degrees, and also in tent mode. Users will also have the option to opt for the Universal Stylus with AES 2.0 pen technology.

The overall chassis is in dark grey color and the outer lid has the Dynabook logo in the middle. There are air vents on the rear side and also on the bottom panel. The bottom panel can be removed for upgrades and replacements. And the Harman Kardon speakers of the laptop are located on the edge of the bottom panel that faces the user.

Specs & Performance

The Dynabook PORTEGE X30W-K review sample that we got here features the Intel Core i7-1260P processor, an Alder Lake-P chip that has a default clock speed of 2.1 GHz and Turbo Boost speeds up to 4.7 GHz. The overall system memory is 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and the internal storage is a Kioxia (Toshiba) KBG40ZNV512G PCIe 3.0 SSD onboard with Windows 11 Professional OS.

The performance of the laptop is good while doing office-based tasks and editorial work. Applications and Windows boot-ups are quick and users who open multiple Word, Excel, Chrome tabs and more do not need to worry about slowdowns. We ran some benchmarks including the CineBench R23, PC Mark 10 Extended, 3DMark FireStrike, TimeSpy. Geekbench 5, and CrystalDiskMark. Take a look at the scores below.

Other features include the Intel WiFi 6E AX211 for a high-speed internet connection and Bluetooth 5.2. The laptop also comes with a 4-cell, 53 Whr Lithium-Ion Polymer battery that also features quick charge technology, where charging the laptop for just half an hour gives 4 hours of battery life. We ran the PC Mark 10 Modern Office battery test and the laptop lasted for 9 hours and 51 minutes.
