Bang & Olufsen unveils a new collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Tokyo-based design studio, Fragment Design, reimagining four of the brand’s most iconic products. For more than three decades, Fujiwara has lived with Bang & Olufsen-its designs accompanying him through studios, cities, and the creative currents that have shaped global culture.
This release marks not a beginning, but a continuation: a long-running dialogue shaped by memory, craftsmanship, and instinct. Expressed through Fragment’s signature monochrome black and Bang & Olufsen’s precision-milled aluminium, the collection reinterprets the portable speaker Beosound A1, the Beoplay H100 headphones, the architectural Beosound Shape, and the timeless Beosystem 9000c – where restraint allows the craftsmanship to speak for itself.
Building on Bang & Olufsen’s century-long legacy of design and innovation, the collaboration draws from a shared belief in objects that endure. From landmark products such as the Beocenter 2300 – Fujiwara’s first Bang & Olufsen piece – to the Beosystem 9000, the brand has long created audio icons defined by precision, longevity and cultural resonance. Few have understood this ethos as instinctively as Hiroshi Fujiwara, whose relationship with the brand spans more than three decades – shaped by a musicians ear and the discerning eye of one of this generation’s most influential creatives.
“This collaboration has been a long-time dream of mine. Since building my home around Bang & Olufsen’s integrated home sound system in the 1990s, the brand has been my first choice for audio. This collaboration feels like a meaningful continuation for our journey together,” says Hiroshi Fujiwara, Founder of Fragment Design.
A pioneering DJ and cultural force in Tokyo, Fujiwara helped shape Japan’s creative landscape in the 1990s – bringing Bang & Olufsen’s products to the forefront and introducing them to a new audience. This connection has never faded. Instead, it now finds clarity in a limited-edition collection that brings a contemporary perspective to the brand’s enduring design principles, reinterpreting iconic products through Fragment’s refined, restrained aesthetic.
Drawing on decades of expertise in working with aluminium, Bang & Olufsen presents an artisanal reworking of its signature material, creating the ideal canvas for Fragment’s iconic black. For the first time, a highly specialized anodization and hand polishing process has been applied to select portable products, producing a distinctive liquid-like, high-gloss finish.
“We applied a highly artisanal anodization and polishing process for the first time on our portable products as part of the Fragment Design collaboration,” says Kresten Bjørn Krab-Bjerre, Bang & Olufsen’s Senior Director of Design. “This meticulous approach brings Fragment’s signature black to life through a finish only achievable by hand.”
Each piece in the collection is marked with Fragment’s distinctive double lightning bolt and wordmark. The Beoplay H100 features the logo on the left ear cup, complemented by high-gloss aluminium accents. The Beosound A1 mirrors the motif beneath the grille, while the curated configuration of seven Beosound Shape tiles combines black and grey fabric in a subtle flower-inspired arrangement, finished with an aluminium logo tag. The Beosound 9000c, paired in a system with Beolab 28 loudspeakers and a Beoremote One, combines matte black surfaces with glossy natural aluminium, with both collaborators’ marks integrated on the CD clamper and speaker stands.
