GPD, the company known for making Android and Windows-powered handheld gaming systems, has officially introduced its newest product called the GPD Win 3. The new device which features PC-specs is launched as a crowd-funded program.
While there is a vast community out there dealing with emulations, it’s an obvious fact that GPD will most probably receive enough funding for the campaign. The new GPD Win 3 is designed to be a portable gaming system with Windows 10 on board. The device features a 5.5-inch IPS display with a modest 720p as screen resolution. The design of the Win 3 shares some design characteristics of the Nintendo Switch. However, in the case of Win 3, the controllers are integrated on the left and right sides of the device.
The buttons on the left include the D-pad, left joystick, and on the right side, you get the right joystick, ABXY buttons, and a fingerprint scanner. There is also a dedicated Xbox key. The Win 3 also features L1/L2 and R1/R2 buttons, along with a USB-A port, volume rocker, power key, and a microphone port on the top side. Additionally, users will be able to even slide-up the screen and get access to a QWERTY touch keyboard. The whole setup does look a lot similar to the Sony VGN-UX series handheld PC that was released many years ago.
The GPD Win 3 also has two custom keys on the rear side, along with air inlets for ventilation. The top portion also features air intakes. On the bottom of the device, you get dual speakers and a Thunderbolt 4 port.
Under the hood of this device comes either the 11th Gen Intel i5-1135G7 processor with speeds of 2.4 GHz to 4.2 GHz or with the faster Intel 11th Gen i7-1165G7 with speeds from 2.8 GHz to 4.7 GHz. Both these chips feature the newest integrated Intel Xe GPU that packs 80 or 96 execution units. The processor is paired with 16GB DDR4 RAM clocked at 4266 MHz and an ultra-fast 1TB PCIe 3.0 SSD. Other features of the device include WiFi 6. Bluetooth 5.0, and a MicroSD slot for storage expansion.
The Win 3 will also include a dock with a range of I/O connections such as HDMI 2.0b, 1Gbps Ethernet connection, a USB-C port, and three USB-A ports. The device has a battery life that is expected to last 2 or 3 hours while gaming and can last up to 8 hours for moderate use.
The GPD Win 3 with Intel i5 or i7 processor is said to be priced at 799 dollars (Approx. 3000 AED) and 899 dollars (Approx. 3300 AED), respectively.
